Question:
Pulling a solid steel 2 horse trailer w tack room and 2 horses total weight trailer and horses approx 6000 pounds trailer 4000 horses 1200 and 1000. Have a factory installed tow package on Dodge, and factory installed brakes on the Trailer with a 7way hookup. I have been pulling with no added brake box. I feel it would be best to have a break box added, but want the best for my vehicle and weight to be pulled. What do you suggest?

For your 2006 Dodge Dakota with the factory 7-Way trailer connector I recommend the P2 brake controller # 90885 because it is easy to set up and use and it is reliable. It also has boost levels that you can adjust depending on if the trailer is empty, full, or somewhere in between. The boost will start applying the trailer brakes at a higher voltage than if no boost is used.
I also recommend wiring harness # 3020-P that will allow you to plug the controller directly into the truck. I have linked a video showing how the harness installs on a Ram which will be similar on your Dakota. I have also linked a video review of the P2 for you.
