Question:

How do I knock out the bearings for replacement? If they are lifetime, who would service them in Houston, TX?

The bearings in the wheels used by the Yakima Rack and Roll trailer are sealed and therefore not serviceable. Unfortunately, Yakima doesn't offer the bearings as a separate replacement item, so you'd need to replace the entire wheel with part # Y08121.

You are able to replace the bearings. What i did was to set my wheel across two saw horses. I then placed my crab cooker under the hub at a low flame. In the meantime, I had the bearings in the freezer over night.. Once the hub was warmed up nicely I took one of the bearings out of the freezer and placed it in the hub and tapped it in with a rubber mallet. Then I flipped the wheel over, retrieved the other bearing and did likewise. When removing the bearings I placed the wheel hub over the heat, and after letting it warm up a little I used a small screwdriver to tap out the bearing. Aluminum will expand quicker when heated than steel. I only had to tap the bearing out of the hub with a few hits of the hammer. Heating the hub seems to be the trick. The bearings can be found at an auto parts store.
