Determining Whether Trailer Wheel Is Hub-Centric Or Lug-Centric
Updated 10/06/2015 | Published 10/04/2015 >
Question:
I recently purchased HWT Tires and Wheels - AM22322HWT from you. What I noticed is though the bolt pattern matches up, they are supporting the wheel, the center of the wheel is larger than the previous wheel. The center on the old one measures approx 2inch where the new one is closer to 2 5/8. Unless there is an adaptor, I suspect I need to replace the hubs. Can you make a suggestion? My trailer is a Thule Adventure 1500, you used to see a similar item.

You can determine the type wheel you need by how it is installed on the trailer. If the wheel slips over the hub and you use bolts to attach the wheel to the hub it is hub-centric.
If you have wheel studs on the hub and the wheel slips over the studs and is then tightened down with lug nuts, it is lug-centric and the pilot diameter is not a problem unless it is too small to fit over the hub.
Both of these type wheels will provide sufficient support as long as you do not exceed the weight capacity of the tire or wheel.
