Bulldog Powered Drive Landing Gear Stops Lifting and Trips Circuit Breaker

Updated 10/06/2015 | Published 10/04/2015

Question:

A little over a year ago I ordered the BD1824200100 kit. I installed it on our trailer that has duel square jacks. It worked great for a few months, but now when trying to raise the trailer it turns very slowly once under load and after around 10 seconds it will trip the 25a breaker. After a bit, the breaker with reset and it will lift for a couple more seconds then trip again. Both 100ah batteries wired for 12V are new, and fully charged. Wire feed for jack is 8 gauge and only about 4 feet long. Jacks are older but still will lift the trailer. If we put the manual handle on and help it along it will continue to lift without tripping. Any ideas what can be causing this?

You may need to lubricate the jack legs. Over time the grease inside can wear down and that can lead to difficult operation, corrosion and grime build up, making it harder for the motor to work. On the Bulldog jacks there are locations for grease below the connecting rod between the jacks. There are also locations to oil, not grease, the connecting rod. These locations are on either side of each jack leg where the rod goes into each leg/exits each leg.

If you continue to have problems then the issue could be damaged threads on the screw(s) or nut(s) inside the jack legs. If the jacks are rated for 12,000 pounds then you can use replacement screw and nut # BD500217. If they are rated for 10,000 pounds use # BD500250.
