There are several situations that could be causing the problem you are seeing with the brake controller installed. Start out with the simplest things to check first and work towards the more difficult troubleshooting measures.
Check to be sure that the power knob is not set all the way to the lowest position. If so hold the manual slide knob and set the knob to 4.0 on the display. If this does not solve the problem, check the ground wire (white), make sure it is grounded to a suitable chassis ground. We recommend that the wire be grounded to the vehicle battery negative post with a 10 gauge wire.
Next, check the Power wire (black) at the back of the brake controller. This wire should show full 12 volt or more voltage. If this circuit is not showing full power check to be sure the connection is good. A circuit tester like item # PTW2993 would be helpful.
Next, check the trailer plug and make sure that there is no corrosion in the plug, front or back, that can cause a short on the blue brake feed circuit. Then, check the connection to the brake feed circuit to be sure it is securely connected and that the brake control wire under the hood is properly attached (see link).
Finally, the Power and ground wires may have been reversed during installation. If this is the case, you will not have any output on the blue wire when the brake pedal is pressed or when the manual control is activated, and the brake controller will need to be replaced.
