Question:

Is the Curt # C13043 enough to be able to tow 21 foot boat on a trailer behind my 2014 lexus gx 460? i have the old tongue and ball from my 2004 lexus gx 470. why does the dealer want to charge me $800 to put a trailer hitch on. Can you help me, whats the difference?

The ability of the hitch and your GX 460 to tow your boat will depend on the weight of the boat and the towing capacity of the hitch and the vehicle.

The Curt Class III hitch you referenced, part # C13043 has a 5000 lb trailer weight/500 lb tongue weight capacity, but the vehicle itself has a 6500 lb towing capacity.

If your old ball mount has the correct amount of rise or drop to tow the trailer so it's level, you can by all means reuse it.

It sounds like the dealer's really trying to gouge you on that hitch. Dealer installed options are a wonderful profit center for the dealership, the mark-up is incredible. Going for the aftermarket hitch will be a much more cost effective option for you, unless the hitch the dealer's wanting to install would have a higher capacity that would let you take advantage of the 6500 lb towing capacity of the GX460.

If you need a trailer wiring harness, use part # HM11141920. I've linked you to the installation instructions for the hitch and the trailer wiring.
