the instructions are rather vague on the routing of the wire and also the plugs your help would be appreciated

I have linked a video that might help with accessing the plug-in locations for Hopkins wiring harness # HM56007. The video is for a different type of wiring harness and not tow bar wiring but it installs in the same way.
As for routing the wiring up to the front of the vehicle I have included a helpful article that covers different ways to route wiring to the front of the vehicle.
