Question:
Hi, Im looking for a hitch for a 2014 Thor Four Winds 28Z motorhome. Neither the manufacturer or the hitch maker Reese will sell me one without going through the Thor dealer. **It must have 6,000, or greater capacity and at least 500 lb tongue weight - WITHOUT a Weight Dist. setup.*** Here are the dimensions: 42inch overall width, outside flanges, of top of hitch. 39.5inch - bolt holes -width center to center there are 3 existing bolt holes per side. 5inch - top of hitch frame to bottom of receiver. can vary - theres some room. 9inch - depth of receiver tube. 11.25inch - depth from end of receiver tube to farthest back part of mounting flange. I have pictures - if you need them. Thanks for your help. The id sticker on my existing Reese hitch is missing - so I cant find the number to cross reference it.

We do offer frame-mount trailer hitches for RVs and these are available in either bolt-on or weld-on varieties. You can click on the included link to see all such items, such as the Curt # C13701 that carries a 500-lb tongue weight (TW) rating and a 5000-lb gross trailer weight (GTW) rating without weight distribution. Hardware is included. This is the highest-rated hitch we offer for RV applications. We have no general-purpose RV hitches rated for 6000-lbs.
It is important to check with your RV manufacturer to confirm that the motorhome's frame where the hitch will install has enough strength to allow the hitch's full capacity to be available. It can happen that the hosting vehicle has a lower or a higher capacity than a particular hitch that is being installed; when this happens the lower-rated of the two items becomes the overall limit for the system.
For example, if you check with Thor using your motor home VIN number and find that its frame is rated for up to 4000-lbs towing weight, then even with a 5000-lb-rated hitch installed your actual capacity will be 4000-lbs.
