Still uncertain how this rack attaches to car. Naked top and no lip inside door to attach a normal rack. Are there pictures to look at or diagrams that give me a better idea?

I attached a picture that shows how the very similar Yakima rack confirmed to fit your 2013 Buick Verano attaches to the door frame of your vehicle.
The Rhino Rack roof rack that you referenced that consists of part numbers # RRVA118B-2, # RRRLKVA, and # DK340 would attach in the same way.
