Adding a locking door handle such as # L1883 is not all that difficult at all. You just need to cut the proper size hole in the right place, attach the handle, and make it look all nice and neat. Locking door handle # L1883 requires a 2-5/8 inch by 3-3/4 inch hole. The door thickness can be no greater than 7/8 of an inch thick to use this handle.
The full size version, # L3980, requires a 3-3/8 inch by 4-5/8 inch hole and fits doors up to 1-1/16 inches thick. I have linked a couple of review videos for you.
