Mixing Load Range E Tires w/ Existing Load Range D Tires on Triple Axle Trailer

Question:
Is it ok to mix e rated tires with existing d rated tires on triple axle trailer.

Expert Reply:
I wouldn't recommend doing so, especially given the amount of weight your dealing with on a triple axle trailer. If you're referring to the ST225/75-15 tire size, a load range D should be kept inflated to its maximum pressure of 65 psi, while the load range E should be kept inflated to 80 psi. It's easy to forget that not all of the tires need the same air pressure. Having some of the tires inflated incorrectly can lead to an unsafe situation.
At the very least, each axle should have two tires of the same capacity, but it's recommended that all the tires be of the same weight rating.
