Question:

Hi, Do you carry a trailer hitch set up for a 1970 chevy chevelle? It would be nice to tow a small trailer. Thanks!

Although we do not have a custom fit hitch available for your 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle, I have a hitch that should work for you. Take a look at the Curt Adjustable Trailer Hitch Receiver, # C13701. This is a universal style hitch receiver that will fit frame widths of 18 inches to 51 inches and can be bolted or welded to the frame.

Since the frame of a Chevelle is not 51 inches wide, you will need to make sure that you have enough clearance past the frame for the longer cross tube or the tube will need to be trimmed. In your case, the tube should stick out about 7 or 8 inches on each side but you will want to measure just to make sure. If you choose to have the tube trimmed so the ends are flush with the frame brackets, you will want to coat the bare metal with paint to protect against rust and corrosion,

Last but not least, the hitch offers a towing capacity of 5,000 lbs and 500 lbs of tongue weight but you will want to take a look at your owner's manual to determine your vehicle's capacity because this will more than likely be the limiting factor.

Since you are planning to tow a small trailer, I have included an article that covers the steps to choosing the correct ball mount for your set-up. You may be interested in the etrailer Ball Mount Kit, # 989900, which comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop, a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.

If your vehicle needs trailer wiring, the 4-Pole 72" Long Vehicle End, # 18172, can be used to provide a 4-way connector for vehicles with a combined wiring system, meaning that the brake and turn signals are on the same circuit.
