For the 2001 Ford Mustang convertible with manual transmission we do offer flat towing base plate options. These are fits for all versions except the Cobra SVT. The set I recommend is the Roadmaster # 466-1 since this base plate has removable arms that will spare you a lot of bumps to the shins.

Flat towing also requires a tow bar, safety cables, a wiring/lighting kit and in most states a supplementary braking system. You will find great detailed information about each of these items in the linked articles on flat towing.

I recommend the Falcon 2 Tow Bar # RM-520 because it will work with the Roadmaster base plates without the cost and complexity of adapters. For safety cables you can use the coiled # RM-643. For a lighting solution you have many options from simple magnetic light kits like # TLL21RK to hardwired diode kits.

For a supplementary braking system I suggest the Roadmaster Even Brake # RM-9400 as it is fully portable and uses a proportional braking sensor to help the towed vehicle stop evenly along with the tow vehicle.

We also offer base plates for your 2005 Saturn Ion, as long as it is not the Red Line and does not have the Performance Package. That base plate from Roadmaster is part # 3136-1.
