i watched the video on the 2013 focus....I have a 2014 Focus. If I hook up the 12 volt outlet kit, how does it work when I disconnect the negative side to tow?

The Hopkins Taillight Wiring Kit for Flat Towing part # HM56008 that you referenced and watched the install video for does not draw power from the vehicle it is installed on so the battery being disconnected on your vehicle would not be an issue at all. All of the power it draws comes from the tow vehicle.
