Installation of the # 40505 wiring harness for your 2000 Ford Mustang is a fairly simple process that I will guide you through.
First, you will remove 2 plastic nuts that hold the trunk liner in place behind the taillights. There will be 1 nut on each side of the vehicle. Pull the liner aside enough to allow access to the connector on the rear wall of the trunk. Separate the connectors.
Once separated, you will connect each plug (in the set closest to the 4-pole) into the corresponding plug on the vehicle. Essentially what you are doing is plugging the unit in line with vehicles wiring. Next, route the green wire and other two plugs, under the trunk liner to the passengers side taillight assembly and make the same connections you did on the drivers side.
Replace the trunk liner and nuts that hold it in place. Installation is complete. The 4-pole end can be left in the trunk until needed. Or you can mount it somewhere at the rear of the vehicle. This last option will more then likely require some drilling. Leaving it in the trunk is a viable option as when the trunk is closed, it will not harm the wires (as long as it is not on any latching mechanism).
I have included the instructions for the # 40505 kit below.
