Question:
I would like to know which hitch would best suit my vehicle for attaching a small travel camper? Do I need special wiring? How many pound limit can I pull? Also, would I need a 1 1/2 or 2 inch? Thank you.

We have a few trailer hitches designed to fit your 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan.
I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch, part # C13133. This is a Class lll hitch and has a 2 inch receiver opening. This hitch is rated with 3,500 lb towing capacity and 350 lb tongue weight capacity. You will want to check your owner's manual or with your dealership to make sure you do not exceed the towing or tongue weight capacity for your Tiguan. Using a heavier duty hitch does not increase the towing capacity for the vehicle.
Since you said you plan on doing some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
The trailer wiring I recommend for your Tiguan is the Curt Wiring, part # CU26FR. The installation instructions are included with the wiring kit. If you are not comfortable with wiring installation, most local mechanic shops are able to install this harness with no issues. I have attached a link to an installation video for this wire harness you can check out.
I recommend the trailer hitch with the 2 inch receiver because you have many more options for accessories like bike racks, cargo carriers, etc that will fit a 2 inch receiver versus a 1-1/4 inch.
I have attached a couple of helpful articles you may want to take a look at.
