Question:
I have a 2012 Toyota Yaris Hatchback. The rack I have is 47 lbs and the bike is a Catrike at 38 lbs. If I use a stabilizing strap is this hitch good enough to use for this setup? It is about half the tongue weight. I think it will work with no problems but wanted to get an expert opinion on this. Thanks.

Many Yaris owners elect to install a hitch receiver on their vehicle in order to transport their bicycles with a hitch mounted rack. Due to the fact that Toyota does not recommend this installation, they do not provide a towing or tongue weight capacity for your vehicle.
The best advice that I have would be to not exceed the tongue weight capacity of the hitch or the 845 lb total load capacity of your vehicle. The total load capacity is the combined weight of occupants plus all cargo and luggage.
According to my records, you purchased the a Curt Custom Fit Trailer Hitch for your 2012 Toyota Yaris. This hitch has a tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs and requires that all non-trailer loads, like a bike rack, be supported with stabilizing straps like part # 18050. You will definitely want to use these straps with your hitch mounted bike rack or your hitch warranty from Curt will be void.
