Is there a Custom 5th Wheel Install Kit for a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Short Bed

Question:

I am looking for a fifth wheel rail kit for my 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel quad cab short bed. Is there a custom fit kit for this and is it difficult to install on your own?

The 5th Wheel installation kit available for the 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Short Bed is the Universal Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch Installation Kit with Rails, # 6005. There is no custom install kit (other than the one for the signature series hitches). I have included the instructions for the kit below. Page 14 of the instructions shows installation details for your vehicle.

Installing a universal kit is only a little bit more difficult and time consuming than a custom kit. I spoke with our installers and they stated that with a universal kit, you are looking probably at a 6 or 7 hour project. The universal kit requires a little more drilling than does the custom kit. Otherwise, if you are fairly handy with automotive projects it should not be very difficult.
