How to Determine Correct 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box to Tow 5th Wheel Trailer w/ Gooseneck Hitch

Question:

I want to convert my 5th wheel hitch into a gooseneck hitch what hitch would work best. I pull my 5th wheel with a 2024 GMC 2500 standard bed and a 2022 Dodge Ram 2500 standard bed.

Hi Jaime,

So it sounds like you are wanting to replace the pin box on your 5th wheel trailer with an adapter that connects to a gooseneck ball. That is definitely something you can do, but there isn't enough information here for me to answer what would work best for you. Reason for that is the specific pin box model and your trailer weight is needed to get the right adapter.

For example, if your 5th wheel trailer has a Lippert 1621 pin box, weighs no more than 21,000 lbs, and has a 2,500 lb pin weight, you'd need the Gen-Y Hitch 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY58GR.

Or if your trailer has a Lippert 1716 pin box, weighs no more than 25,000 lbs, and has a 3,500 lb pin weight you'd need the Gen-Y Hitch 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY73FR.

Sometimes the pin box will have a plate or sticker which shows the model number, but if that is not there, to find out what pin box you have you can take a few measurements. @JaimeV I went to Lippert and they would need the serial number, and said it should start with an "S", and that the RPO wasn't coming up either. Is there a number on the pin box that starts with an "S"? If not, then you would have to measure to find the right pin box.

@JaimeV So I gave all the info provided to Lippert, and none of it was coming up in their system. This is the first time I've ever encountered this, and they also said it was very odd for none of it to be showing. Lippert did say if you contacted them and sent them a photo of the chassis tag that they should be able to find it. Apologies for the long process here, normally the info you provided is more than enough.
