Features:
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area on the driver's side and passenger's side. You will have to remove the spare tire and some interior paneling to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, run the red hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in your rear cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today I'm gonna take a look at this Hopkins Plug-In Vehicle Wiring Harness with the four-way flat trailer connector. Now, this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 1994 to 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles. And on a custom fit part like this, I do like to recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show if this will work for your application.
So this will provide this four-way flat trailer connector to back your vehicle to power your trailer signal lights. And it's compatible with 5-pole, 6-pole, and 7-pole adapters that we do sell separate on our website and this will include everything laid out here on the table. Comes with the four-way wiring harness with the converter box. Comes with the dust cap for your four-way. Comes with the length of wire, an inline fuse holder with the fuse included, terminal grease packet and some cable ties.
Now this harness will connect very quickly and easily. All you have to do is locate the connection points in your rear cargo area, plug in these connectors right here, there's one on each side, and then run the power wire right here to your vehicle's battery. Now this does include a circuit protected tail light converter. That's this black box here. And this is to ensure that your vehicle's line will match that of your trailer.
It will provide protection against electrical shorts and overloads. And it is a power module so it connects directly to your battery to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Now the maximum amp on this is five amps per function. Just when the damage demonstrate quickly how this all goes together. And it will come with instructions to show you.
But basically what you'll go is to the rear cargo area. And then you'll have your connection points on each side. And you'll take this connector that has the yellow wire in it, that's for the driver's side and you'll plug this into there. And then you'll take the other connector, it has the length of green wire that's for the passenger side and that'll run over to the passenger side and plug in. Run your wire with the four-way on it out towards the back. We mentioned it comes with this dust cap. The dust cap you can install on the plug, just snaps on there and you can leave it on there. You don't have to remove it. And what'll happen is when you're not plugged into your trailer, you just put that cap over there and it'll protect those terminals from the elements or from any damage. And then what you'll wanna do is you got this last wire you need to connect, that'll need to run to your vehicle's battery. To do that, they give you a length of wire and an inline fuse holder 'cause you don't wanna go directly to the battery. So what you'll do is take this wire with the butt connector on it, you'll run one end of the wire on that all the way up to the front to the battery. Take the other end of wire and you'll connect it to this side of the inline fuse holder. Once they're all connected, you'll attach this eyelet connector on the other end to the battery. Check that you have your 15 amp fuse installed in there and now it's all ready to go. Now when you do make your electrical connections, they want you to use this terminal grease on there to prevent corrosion, and they'll give you some extra cable ties to take up any slack in the wiring. But that should do it for a look at the Hopkins Plug-In Vehicle Wiring Harness with the four-way flat trailer connector.
