Whereas belt-driven fans use up power from the engine to turn, electric fans do not, thus removing any unnecessary load and increasing both fuel economy and horsepower. In addition, you do not have to worry about an electric fan's slowing down at low RPM, as many belt-driven fans do, so you are guaranteed sufficient airflow regardless of the vehicle speed.

Before purchasing an electric fan, be sure to determine the CFM (cubic feet per minute) requirements for your engine. And remember, engines that have been modified or vehicles often used for towing may require additional CFM. There is no limit to the number of fans you can install, as long they all fit appropriately and are mounted on the same side of your radiator so that they do not cancel each other out.

Two types of turn-on sources are available for this fan. The Derale Lighted On/Off Switch for Electric Fans (D16740) allows for manual control of your fan so that you can choose when to turn it on and off. Thermostatic controls, on the other hand, send a signal to the fan, directing it to shut off when fluid temperatures reach an appropriate level, thus saving power. Once the temperature climbs again and additional cooling is needed, the fan is automatically turned back on. Thermostat switches can be single-stage with pre-set temperatures - D16735, D16738, D16739, D16720 and D16721 - or adjustable - D16778 and D16779.

THIS FAN WAS PUT THRU THE RINGER IN A NUT ORCHARD MACHINE. IT HAS PERFORMED GREAT AND WE WILL BE ORDERING MORE FOR THIS MACHINE.

I put two of these in front of the radiator in my suburban. They were great at keeping the engine much cooler especially while I am towing or sitting in traffic. They were easy to install and connect. I connected them together with 3 relays to switch them between either series or parallel connection, depending on what power output I wanted. In series, they would run at half speed whenever the air conditioning compressor was running, which worked great for keeping airflow over the air conditioning condenser and the engine cool while idling in the hot sun. I added a radiator temperature probe to the radiator and the oil, so when either got to 180° it would switch to parallel mode and run the fans at high-speed. The reason for not running I'm in high-speed all the time was for two reasons, first because they are two fans are a little loud if the vehicle is not moving, second the power draw of the two fans was a little too much for an idling engine, especially with a trailer plugged in drawing power also.

by:

The fans seam to be exactly what I needed .the mounting ties did't work very well. The keeper didn't hold very well

by:

  • 2100 CFM Derale Electric Cooling Fan
I contacted TPI Corporation in Tennessee for information about the fan part 20-3114 and I was advised that this item is not one of their valid part numbers. However, we do have a Derale fan that might work well for you, their 2-Speed 2100-CFM High Output 14-Inch electric fan # D18214 which fits your available space dimensions. All fans appear on the linked page and dimensions are provided in the specs to help you select your best option.

  • Recommendation of Electric Fan for 1988 Ford Ranger With 2.9L Engine
When choosing an electric fan for your vehicle you will want to make sure to get a fan that will give you the correct Cubic Feet per Minute (CFM) for the size of your engine. The CFM is how much air is being moved through your radiator in one minute. The typical CFM requirement for a 6 cylinder engine is 1,600 to 2,000. If your 1995 Ford Ranger is used for towing you will want additional airflow. It is always recommended to go with the highest rated fan. I am including a link to a FAQ...

  • Derale 12 inch High-Output, Electric Radiator Fan # D16925 Recommendation
I spoke with my contact at Derale and he informed me that a Derale 12 inch High-Output, Electric, Single Radiator Fan # D16925 can withstand air temperatures of up to 300 degrees and is 12 inches in diameter. Based on everything you need I think this # D16925 would be the best choice we could offer you. I attached a couple FAQs on radiator fans for you to check out also.

  • Are Fans in Derale Radiator Fan # D16927 Recessed Into the Shroud, Available Fans without Shroud
The fans are mounted to the surface of the shroud on Derale Radiator Fan, # D16927, for a total depth of 3-3/4 inches, but there is little to no extra shroud available to trim back (only about 5/8 of an inch at most), as the fan does protrude a little into the shroud. It is not recommended to modify the part as it will void the warranty and possibly cause unwanted performance. Fans can be purchased without the shroud attached. Take a look at the Derale Fan, # D18214. This fan can be mounted...

To use the Derale Dual High-Output Electric Radiator Fan, part # D16927, in your 1956 Chevrolet with 350 small block you will need to be able to fit the 3-3/4-inch-deep fan housing between the radiator and the engine. • Tips for Choosing an Electric Radiator Fan for a 1988 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 with 2.9 Liter Engine
Electric fans like # D18214 are not vehicle specific so if you have the space to install the fan you can use it on your 1988 Ford Ranger. This fan can be mounted on either side of the radiator to either push air through it or pull air through it. If you are using the fan to supplement the factory fan then just make sure that the two fans are not working against each other. For example if the factory fan pulls air through the radiator then the supplemental fan needs to be on the other side...

  • Electric Radiator Fan Recommendations for a 2003 GMC Sonoma
Adding an electric fan or fans is subject to how much space you have in the engine compartment. The first thing I would check is if your 2003 Sonoma has a fan driven by a serpentine belt (a belt that turns the pulleys of several components) or if it has its own belt. If the fan is attached to the pulley for the water pump, you will not be able to remove it though the blades may be able to be removed. So if you find that your fan or blades can be removed and you can add an electric fan,...
