Heavy-Duty Tie-Downs

Heavy-duty strength in a lightweight package: the TorkLift Talon tie-downs are the premium choice for heavy truck campers and unforgiving climates. Made of military-grade aluminum alloy, the removable arms are rustproof and robust while also being lightweight and easy to handle. The receiver brackets are constructed of rugged stainless steel, and both components are protected by a high-impact powder coat finish that guards against wear and tear.

A Safe Ride is a Comfortable Ride

If you're looking for the best tie-downs for your camper, frame-mounted is the way to go. The frame is the most solid part of your entire vehicle, so it just makes sense to attach your camper to something that's not going to warp, bend, or twist. Even more importantly, the camper's center of gravity is going to sit lower and its weight will be spread across the entire bed. This avoids a top-heavy load perched on top of your bed rails that's liable to sway and get pushed around by crosswinds. The camper's not going to shift or slide around while you drive; it's going to stay put, and your truck is going to handle just like it does without a camper.

Quick Tip: If you have a plastic or spray-in bed liner, it's important that you use a rubber mat under the camper to eliminate any sliding or bouncing.

Don't Ruin Your Truck's Looks

Frame-mounted tie-downs are also a great pick for preserving your truck's good looks. The brackets install on the frame, tucked nearly flush to the underside of the vehicle. Remove the arms from the brackets when you're not using them and the brackets will be barely visible.

Custom Fit, No-Drill Installation

Completely custom to your vehicle, the tie-downs attach to exisiting holes in your frame so that there's little to no drilling and no need for any modifications. Because they're custom, you'll want to use our in-house application guide to make sure you get the exact right model. The tie-downs you need might be different depending on what type of hitch or other accessories you have.

Securing Your Camper

TorkLift Talon Tie Down Example

Once the tie-downs are installed, use a set of turnbuckles (sold separately) to secure the camper to the tie-downs. The shank on each arm has 2 pin holes so you can choose how far out they extend, that way the turnbuckles can reach the anchors on your camper without making contact with your truck. Tighten the turnbuckles to the correct level of tension (not too tight!).

where to put camper tie downs

Make sure the anchor points are offset from the tie-downs instead of lined up with them so that they will hold your camper from multiple angles. This is important for keeping your camper from shifting. Two holes in the attachment plate of the tie-downs let you find the best angle for you camper anchors.

Hey, everybody, Jared at etrailer.com. Today I want to take a quick look at the front frame-mounted Talon Camper Tie-Downs by Torklift. Now this is a custom fit product. This is designed to fit the 2019 through 2021 Ram 3,500 with a six and a half foot bed. According to the manufacturer, it does not fit if there are running boards or tube steps that extend beyond the cab and run along the bed. On a custom part like this, I always recommend that you go to our website and put your vehicle information into our fit guide and ensure a proper fit.

Now, this setup is for front-mounted Camper Tie-Downs. The rear-mounted Camper Tie-Downs would be sold separately. This will help you attach your truck camper confidently by attaching your Tie-Downs to the strongest part of your truck, which is the frame. The mounts will help its stability and vehicle handling. And it's the safest way to haul your truck camper.

It'll prevent vehicle sway and camper movement in all directions. And vehicle manufacturers do recommend that full height camper bodies be directly attached to your vehicle frame structure. This was, securing at the base, rather than the bed, will help distribute the weight and keep the setup from being too top heavy. It also helps to avoid bed and bumper damage which is common with other tie-downs systems. Now, one of the tie-downs is not to the driver's side and the other will be mounted to your passenger side.

The two holes at the tie-down inserts will allow you to attach your turnbuckles from your camper to your truck and not interfere with anything on your vehicle. There's also two holes here at the shank insert which will offer different width campers. Now, this is a fast, no drill install and there is no loss of clearance with the tie-down system. The brackets are made of stainless steel and the inserts are made of aluminum and they all have a black powder coat finish to help prevent rust. Now this includes both passenger and driver's side frame-mounted brackets and front tie-down inserts and all necessary hardware.

And it has a nice set of instructions here, explaining the installation. If we consider the dimensions, we do have a mounting bracket length, 13 inches. The maximum length, at its widest option, including the inset, is 27 and a quarter inches. And the minimum length, at its narrowest option, including the insert, is 23, 23 and three eights inches, within install. Now, when you're not using your tie-downs, alls you have to do is pull the pin here. You remove the insert from the frame mounted bracket and without the inserts, the bracket mounted to the frame will hide away. It'll give your truck the back-to-factory-look. Now when you're using your tie-downs, simply put the insert back in. You're going to find the hole which is going to accommodate your truck and your camper width. Alright, replace the pin and then you're good to go. There is a lifetime warranty attached to this product and it's made in the USA, a standard quality you know and trust. Alright, well let's load our front frame-mounted Talon Camper Tie-Downs by Torklift. I'm Jared with each etrailer.com. You have a good one..
