Features to know about

Stay Level Under Load: 3,000-lb Rear Suspension Support

Heavy weight in the back can make your ride sag and throw off how it handles. These SumoSprings Maxim helper springs add up to 3,000 lbs of rear axle support at 50-percent compression to keep your vehicle level and controlled. They cushion bumps and shocks while helping your factory suspension carry the load so steering and braking stay steady.

SumoSprings Maxim Helper Spring compressing under heavy load to support rear axle suspension and reduce vehicle sag.

Smooth Ride, Empty or Full: Progressive Load Control

Whether you’re loaded down or running empty, the springs adjust automatically. They compress easily for lighter loads to keep the ride soft and comfortable, then firm up as weight increases—up to 80 percent compression—to handle serious cargo without bottoming out. You get a smooth ride when empty and solid control when loaded.

SumoSprings Maxim Helper Springs expanded to show suspension movement during light or unloaded conditions for a smoother ride.

Stay Steady in Crosswinds and Turns: Independent Spring Action

Each spring works on its own, so they react independently when one side hits a bump or carries more weight. That helps reduce body roll in sharp turns and keeps the vehicle stable through crosswinds or uneven ground. The result is a level, planted feel that makes long drives more comfortable and controlled.

Built Tough for Real Conditions: Durable Microcellular Urethane

These microcellular urethane springs are made to take abuse from the road without wearing out. They resist oils, road salts, and UV rays, and hold up in temperatures from -25 F to 200 F. With minimal side expansion, they move straight up and down in tight spaces without rubbing nearby parts. There’s no air pressure to check or tubing to run—just maintenance-free performance that keeps working trip after trip.

Simple Bolt-On Setup: Constant Support, No Air Lines

Each spring mounts securely at the top and bottom with included brackets and hardware for easy bolt-on installation. Because they’re in full contact through the suspension’s travel, they provide constant support whether you’re loaded or unloaded. Once installed, there’s nothing to adjust—just solid suspension help every time you hit the road.

2003 Nissan Leaf
I like the quality of the materials and everything is included. I can only use 1 hole in my frame because the other doesnt line up. Will have to drill 3 on each side. Have to jack way up because now I can see how worn the leaf springs are.

The sumo springs work really really well.
by:
The OEM front axle springs are useless. You really need these. A very easy DIY fix to your RV chassis. They'll definitely help with the extra weight we added.

I replaced both the front and rear Helper Springs with the Sumo Springs. The difference in the handling and ride of my 36 ft Class A Motorhome was amazing. My only regret is that I didn’t do this years ago. With the old helper springs when an 18 wheeler would pass on a two lane road the motorhome would rock but with the new Sumo Springs I feel almost nothing. The difference has made driving much more enjoyable.

2023 Ford E-Series Cutaway
I just finished installing these, on my 2023 Ford E-350 HD Dually Class C motorhome. The installation could not have gone better. All the parts were high quality, the right size and quantity. The instructions were clear and the illustrations well labeled. I can't wait to get out on our next trip!

I think the sumo spring helpers are great

It seems to be taking care of our bottoming out problem. We’ve only taken it a short distance so time will tell. The old airbags had to be removed and new holes drilled but other than that they was relatively easy to install.

2013 Newmar Canyon Star Motorhome
These were a challenge to get on. The videos helped, but on our RV, you must remove the rear wheels to drill the holes for the top bracket. Make sure you have some very good drill bits to drill through the frame. Directions were good and matched the videos on the Etrailers website. Haven't carried it out for a road test yet, as I am waiting on the part to torque the lug nuts back on. Note if you have 22.5 tires like we do then you will have to torque lugnuts to 450 ft lbs. I was prepared, I thought, except for the extension that I need for the torque wrench. Also, I used a torque converter tool, which made loosening the lug nuts a breeze.
by:
Great product, unfortunately my motor home has brackets for storage and hydraulic lines that are welded to the frame where the spring brackets should be bolted. I decided not to remove the brackets and returned the springs. Abbey V helped me through the whole process made everything very smooth.

Works great on our 2018 Fleetwood Blunder 36H!

Happy to hear that Tony! You drive a biggin' so I'm glad you have some extra suspension support. :) When's the next excursion with the Fleetwood Blunder?

Our 28 foot Ford chassis Class A handles like flying a kite with no string. It needed help. I started with the Sumo springs because the description made it sound like I could do them myself. Yep. Job accomplished.
Then, I purchased a front sway bar, which did not come with my motorhome. Got ready for the job and discovered Sumo springs are incompatible with mounting a front sway bar. Had I known…
By the way, we are still flying our kite and having a ball. 15 states and 16,000 happy miles.
But it could be better.

2021 Ford F-53
Finally completed my SumoSprings with these rear ones for our 2022 Entegra Vision 29s (Ford F53 chassis V8). A while back, I installed the front SumoSprings and it changed our RV from a “white-knuckling, Nordictrack-exercising, stress-induced-heart-stopping” drive to a…comfortable and sure-footed one.
This time around I installed the rear ones and it complimented the drive even more!! We pull a ~5k lbs utility trailer w/off-road UTV’s and we don’t sway or fishtail as much in the rear anymore! We love SumoSprings!! We have them in ALL of our vehicles!! Highly recommend!
I deducted 1 star for eTrailer. I made the mistake of repurchasing the front SumoSprings again instead of the rears, without triple checking what I bought. I cancelled a minute too late to prevent it from being shipped. Unfortunately, it was shipped and they had to issue me a return label for when it arrives. Thus deducting logistics and restocking fee from my purchase refund.
Granted, it was 100% my fault for the wrong purchase but eTrailer could have given a loyal customer a one time pass.

2011 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter
The installation is more difficult than the installation lead me to think it would be but once installed the sumo springs contributed greatly to dampening the roll of the RV as it went through ruts and over speed bumps etc. I am a little surprised at how compressed they are after I let the vehicle down on them and I'd appreciate knowing if others have this level of compression. I had considered a 2cm lift for this vehicle but held off for now. Pictures attached.
First pic 4616: Shows that on my rig I had to jack the spring and axle down from the frame in order to get the sumo spring in.
Second pic 2816: shows that I was able to put the sumo sprint in the left of the sway bar bracket (which had to be removed). Next I used pry bars to move it to the right into the bracket where it belongs.
Third pic 5748: shows the spring installed and compressed by the vehicles weight.
Fourth pic 2230: Shows the spring partially installed on the left side. Note that the eyelet on the sway bar bracket on this side (sprinter 3500) makes the install much harder and I had to really jack the springs down to get it on this side.
Fifth pic 0054: Left side installed and sway bar reinstalled. Still unloaded
Sixth pic 0741: all installed. Seems over compressed to me...

2018 Jayco Greyhawk Motorhome
I am sure these are very good, the only reason for the low rating is to get attention so no one makes the same mistake like i did.

These DONOT FIT on a 2018 Jayco Greyhawk equipped with the JRide suspension. The Heliwig helper springs are in the way.

etrailer application guide needs to be updated, the picture attached show the Heliwigs are in the way.

2018 Thor Windsport Motorhome
Sumospring is an excellent product. Very happy with the performance of this product. Installation was not difficult only had to make small adjustments. Sumospring Tech help line was very helpful. Product does as advertised.

AWESOME RIDE. SMOOTH AND SOLID. SHOULD HAVE DONE THIS LONG AGO.

2019 Fleetwood Flair Motorhome
I watched the install video probably three or four times before these arrived at the house. I went ahead and removed my wheels just like the install video. Everything went smoothly. I took our Fleetwood Flair 32s on a test drive and I was really impressed with the overall feel of our RV now.. The first thing I noticed was the fact that I’m not having to constantly correct to stay in my lane. In the past my hands were constantly moving to maintain a line. Not now.
by:
These are a huge improvement. Can’t believe how it helped quiet it down over bumps. The silverware and such isn’t slamming down in the drawers etc. now. Highly recommend.
by:
These were perfect for our E450 Dynamax Class C motorhome. They really enhanced the ride and handling. They raised the motorhome overall about an inch and and quarter. I would definitely purchase again.
by:
Best purchase you can make for the f53 chassis. I can't believe how big a difference these things make. Very nice ride. Can actually drive for hours now and not feel fatigued. I recommend to buy these first thing when you get a new motorhome.
by:
My THOR motor coach has the Ford F-53 chassis. I rides like a truck. That should not be surprising as "it is a truck." I purchased and installed these Sumo Springs and even though it will never be "air bag" suspension, the Sumo Spring made a wonderful difference in improving the ride. I would recommend this add on to everyone and as I meet similar motor coaches on the road, I show them the Sumo Springs and I do recommend them.

  • SumoSpring Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for 1997 Fleetwood Bounder on F-53 Chassis
Your 1997 Fleetwood Bounder is built on a Ford F-53 chassis which we do have SumoSpring fits for. For the front axle you'd want the part # SSF-172-40-2 and then for the rear part # SSR-185-40-1 and you'd be set!

  • Is Removal of Wheels Required When Installing SumoSprings on a 2001 Winnebago
Although it isn't required, I do recommend removing your wheels when you install the Front # SSF-170-40-2 and Rear # SSR-185-40-1 SumoSprings on your 2001 Winnebago. I spoke with my contact at SumoSprings who said that they have heard of people installing the kits without removing the wheels but the wheels do restrict the amount of room you have to operate quite a bit so it would be much easier without the wheels in the way. Attached are the installation instructions for you to check out...

  • SumoSprings Helper Springs Fit for 1999 Fleetwood Bounder Motor Home on F-53 Chassis
For your 1999 F-53 chassis, there are 2 different SumoSprings help spring options, and the correct kit for your motor home will depend on the vehicle's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). If your motor home's GVWR is between 16,000 pounds and 18,000 pounds, you will want to use the SumoSprings Maxim Custom Helper Springs, Rear Axle # SSR-185-40-1. These springs have a weight capacity of 3,000 pounds. No drilling is required to install this kit and the installation instructions are linked...

  • Correct SumoSprings for 2000 Fleetwood Southwind on Ford F-53 Chassis
For your 2000 Fleetwood Southwind Motorhome you need the SumoSprings Rebel Custom Helper Springs # SSF-172-40-2 for the front and the SumoSprings Maxim Custom Helper Springs # SSR-187-54-1 for the rear. Although the # SSR-185-40-1 is confirmed to fit the F-53 it does not fit your Fleetwood Southwind. These will do an excellent job together to improve the ride on your motorhome. They will absorb bumps and shocks while minimizing sway. This will make it easier to drive and reduce fatigue...

  • Can You Upgrade the Front Sway Bar On a 1996 Tiffin Allegro Motorhome
The Roadmaster Polyurethane Bushing Kit for Factory Front Anti-Sway Bars part # RM-4139-127 will fit your 1996 Tiffin Allegro Motorhome on a Ford F-53 Chassis and like an upgraded front sway bar will work to improve stability. Although they do not offer an actual upgraded front sway bar for your motorhome, the bushing kit is the next best thing as it will really tighten up the what I assume are very worn out factory bushings. These new bushings are made of polyurethane which are much stiffer...

  • Correct SumoSprings for a 1999 Georgie Boy Class A Motorhome on Ford F-53 Chassis with 18K GVWR
The correct SumoSprings Custom Helper Springs for a 1999 Georgie Boy Class A Motorhome on Ford F-53 Chassis with 18,000 GVWR is part # SSF-172-40-2 for the front and part # SSR-185-40-1 for the rear. These are one of the most popular upgrades you can make to the motorhome and they will go a great job of improving stability i.e. reducing body roll, improving ride quality i.e. absorbing road shock, and providing extra support.

  • Compatibility of a Rear Suspension Helper on a 1998 Ford E350 Class C Motorhome
I can help find rear suspension help for the 1998 E350 Class C Motorhome. SuperSprings # SSA34 offers a leaf spring style rear suspension stabilizer for your Motorhome if it is a Dual Wheel application. These springs provide 1,900lbs. of additional load leveling ability. For a similar bag you were looking at with the # SSR-185-40-1, I would suggest the Timbren # TFER35092B. This system will offer a 3,600lbs. capacity and will easily install with no drilling. • Will SumoSprings for a 1999 Itasca Sunrise Improve Ride Quality
Yes, the SumoSprings Custom Helper Springs will help to smooth out the ride on a Ford F-53 Chassis. The anti-sway bars and steering stabilizers help with stability but don't really do much for ride quality. The springs however work as a cushion between the body and frame therefore offer improvements in ride quality. The correct kit for the rear is part # SSR-185-40-1 and part # SSF-172-40-2 for the front. I suggest the rear if only doing one but both is better.
