The Thule Adventurer cargo box will fit on the Thule WingBar crossbars. The mounting hardware that came with the Adventurer cargo box had 3 holes, you will want to use the outer holes with the WingBar crossbars (see photo). There is not an extension available for the MaxxTow Roof Mounted Cargo Basket MT70115 that you referenced. We do have other cargo baskets like the Curt # C18115 that can be extended with the add-on piece # C18117, but unfortunately this isn't possible with your existing unit.

We haven't run into this in the past with customers who have used the # 118710 so I would start by checking the vehicle side connector. The brake and turn signals are separate on your European style 7-way so you will need to determine which pin is the brake signal and check for power using a tester like the # PTW2993. It may be that there is some corrosion on the connector as well, especially since it is a 2002, so it would be a good idea to check it and clean as necessary.

First, I recommend checking the weight capacity of your vehicle's roof as well as the weight capacity of the crossbars on your roof. Most vehicle roofs do not have a very high weight capacity. For your 2000 Volvo V70 XC, the crossbars I recommend are the Thule WingBar Load Bars # TH711420 along with the Thule Evo Raised Rail Feet # TH710401 and lock cores # TH450400. To reduce noise, aero bars are definitely the route to go. Adding a fairing will give you even less wind noise, so I recommend the Thule AirScreen Fairing for Roof Racks # TH82WV for your application.

If you are planning on towing with your 2000 Volvo V70, you will not want to exceed the towing weight capacity or tongue weight capacity listed in your owner's manual. Doing so can cause damage to the vehicle, along with creating an unsafe condition.
