While I have a much easier trailer wiring solution than the # 40455 that you referenced for your 2006 Mazda Tribute there is a good chance you'd have to have a relay installed behind the dash board of your vehicle to have the circuits active for this kit to work. Since most of our customers have come back and stated that finding the relay was a headache the much better option is to go with a harness that installs by plugging inline with the taillight circuits of the vehicle.

I do have a few solutions to wire your 2000 Viking with 6-way Square to your 2001 Mazda Tribute 4-Way flat.
The first option would be to cut off the 6-way connector on your Viking Popup Camper, and wire in a 4-way connector by function. It sounds like there could be one of two possible problems. First, it could be a ground issue. A weak ground can cause all sorts of issues. Make sure the ground for the converter is attached to a clean and corrosion free bare metal surface. If it already is, try moving the ground to a different location.

Since only one function is not working it doesn't sound like it is the converter box. Although there could be a problem with the connectors, there should be no real loss of conductivity over time. It is possible that the # C56329 needs to be replaced, but there are a few things you can check first before going that route.
