Rear Suspension Support

SumoSprings helper springs are great for RVs or motor homes. Heavy rear loads can cause sag as your factory suspension compresses under the weight of the load. This means that the rear axle is trying to support not only the extra load but also the motor home's weight. And because there is less weight on your front axle, your front tires make less contact with the road, which causes problems with traction, steering, and braking. SumoSprings upgrade your vehicle's factory suspension to level your vehicle, improve driving performance, and keep your ride comfortable.

SumoSprings diagram of installation above existing vehicle spring

Each spring in this kit is bolted to two mounting brackets. One bracket is attached to the frame of your vehicle, and the other bracket is attached to the axle, typically above your existing factory leaf spring. Because each helper spring is in full contact at the top and bottom of the suspension's travel, the expanding and contracting action of the SumoSprings enhances your ride under all conditions, not just when it's loaded. And the closed-cell urethane springs act like a shock absorber to dampen road vibration.

SumoSprings compressing under load

SumoSprings provide progressive load control - the more you load them, the stiffer they become. With a lighter load, the springs will compress easily for soft engagement and a less bumpy ride. The springs can also compress by as much as 80 percent to support a heavy rear load and to help your factory suspension bear up under the load. This evens out the weight, which levels your vehicle and ensures that your front tires are making better contact with the road. A level ride means that you have improved driving control, ensures safe headlight aim, and helps to minimize sway. The springs also support your factory suspension, which helps prevent sagging and reduces bottoming out.

The springs work independently from one another to support each side of your vehicle. This action helps to reduce body roll when you make a sharp turn. This also helps compensate for an off-center load.

SumoSprings expanding to allow play in the suspension

These springs extend in height by as much as 50 percent to allow more movement in your suspension when you're traveling unloaded, making your ride smoother and more comfortable.

Durable, Custom-Fit Springs

These microcellular urethane springs are tough. They resist abrasion, oil, salt, and UV rays that can more quickly wear out other springs, and they perform well in temperatures ranging from -25 F to 200 F (-33 C to 93 C).

SumoSprings expand and compress vertically with minimum expansion to the sides, so they won't be damaged by nearby mechanical parts and they fit safely into tighter spots. And unlike air springs, SumoSprings require no maintenance or adjustment.

This kit comes with custom-fit brackets that are designed to easily bolt onto your vehicle.

  • SumoSpring Suspension Enhancement for 2017 Fleetwood Bounder with 22k Ford F-53 Chassis
If you wanted to install SumoSprings on your 2017 Fleetwood Bounder built on a Ford F-53 that are designed for the higher GVWR chassis you could but you should note that it would probably give you a harsher ride quality than you'd want. For GVWR between 20k and 26k you'd want the part # SSR-187-54-1. The kit for 20-22k like what you have would be the part # SSR-180-54-1 which would give you the support you want without sacrificing ride quality. I can see how it would be tempting to go...

  • Suspension Enhancement for 2021 Forest River Georgetown 36K7 Motorhome
We can get your 2021 Forest River Georgetown 36K7 set up for a smoother and more controlled ride, and the best way to do that is to add an aftermarket rear anti-sway bar because they are better constructed with higher-strength, thicker steel than OEM sway bars. This means the bars are stronger with much higher roll stiffness to combat sway, and their placement at the rear of the vehicle allows for the greatest improvement in handling. After that, to get the best overall handling, you can...

  • In Which Order Should SumoSprings Be Installed On A 2006 Fleetwood Jamboree Motorhome
It doesn't matter which order you install the SumoSprings on your 2006 Fleetwood Jamboree GT 31W motorhome. Typically the rear needs the most help when it comes to enhancement so that's where most people start, but if you're doing both it doesn't really matter. For your Ford E-450 Chassis you would want the SumoSprings Maxim Custom Helper Springs # SSR-106-54-1 for the rear and the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSF-106-47 for the front. I've attached some videos below to help...

  • Best Anti-Sway Bars and SumoSprings for a Forest River Georgetown 360DS On Ford F-53 Chassis
The most beneficial component that you can add to your motorhome's suspension is a rear anti-sway bar or in your case, an upgraded rear anti-sway bar. For your 2014 Forest River Georgetown 360DS on a Ford F-53 Chassis, I recommend the Roadmaster Rear Anti-Sway Bar part # RM-1139-149 which features a 1-5/8" diameter bar and polyurethane bushings. I have attached an install video for you on a similar motorhome with the same chassis.

  • Recommended Sumo Springs for 2018 Ford F53 Chassis 24,000 lbs
The SumoSprings Rebel Custom Helper Springs - 2 Piece - Front Axle # SSF-173-40-2 will support the load and compress together on your motorhome all the time when there is weight. The split design is a benefit for the individual springs when the suspension travel is greater than what a single non-split design could handle. In other words, when one wheel travels lower on a turn, the spring will not take weight off the wheel so it has more weight in contact with the road for better traction....

  • Recommended Suspension Upgrade for 2018 Fleetwood Bounder 36D on Ford F-53 Chassis
I strongly recommend both front and rear anti-sway bars, and for your 2018 Fleetwood Bounder 36D on a Ford F-53 chassis with a GVWR of 22,000 lbs and a V10 engine the correct rear anti-sway bar is the Roadmaster Rear Anti-Sway Bar # RM-1139-149 while the front anti-sway bar is # RM-1139-148. For the rear bar you may need to use Extended U-Bolt Kit # RM-590050-00 if you find the square OEM U-bolts on your Bounder are too short. The Extended Kit gives you U-Botls which are 15-3/4". Fits the 2008 to 2017 F53 Tiffin models. Looks like the part # SSF-171-40-2 is for the earlier model years 2004 to 2007. • Best Suspension Upgrades For 2007 Gulf Stream Independence 22,000 GVWR on Ford Chassis
Hey Jaran, Great questions, and regarding the anti-sway bars, I definitely recommend upgrading to a larger size. When it comes to anti-sway bars on motorhomes like your Gulf Stream, bigger is definitely better. The larger the diameter of bar, the higher the roll stiffness it gives you, and that's the most important aspect of handling sway. The rear anti-sway bar is the best upgrade, followed by the front anti-sway bar, and then steering stabilizer for added control in the heavy crosswinds....

  • Sway Bars that Fit 2006 Damon Daybreak 3276 to Improve Handling
Since your 2006 Damon Daybreak 3276 is built on a Ford chassis with a 20,500 lb GVWR the correct rear sway bar is the part # RM-1139-143. This will do a really good job getting rid of the sway and keeping the motorhome on the road without requiring over corrections. To help with the bumps and also improve handling the SumoSprings part # SSF-171-40-2 would be what you'd want for the front and then # SSR-187-54-1 for the rear.

For the rear you will need the Sumo Springs # SSR-183-54-1 as long as your motorhome is NOT a Fleetwood, Forest River, Newmar, or Thor model. The jounce springs I recommend for your two wheel drive 2019 Ford F-53 chassis are from SumoSprings, the SumoSprings Rebel for the front axle and SumoSprings Maxim for the rear axle.
