An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall when loaded. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride when loaded or towing because the rubber has more travel.

Video Transcript for Timbren Manufacturer Spotlight - Suspension Enhancement

Hey guys, it's Jake here with etrailer. Today we've got John with us from Timbren. He's gonna tell us a little bit more about what separates Timbren from the competitors. I appreciate it, I'm glad to be here. Timbren is a suspension specialist. We're based in Whitby, Ontario, so we are a true manufacturer in Canada and we offer a wide range of suspension products from light duty, from commercial all the way up to Overlander, Sprinter applications and trailers.

Now we've talked about a few of the options you guys have and we have plenty of options on our website. Right. We've got the SES kits. We've got the axle-less suspension. Right.

We've got your new coil inserts that just came out recently. But what would you say is your bread-and-butter at Timbren Yeah, no, our SES, suspension enhancement system, is definitely our bread-and-butter. Came out in 2011, won a SEMA New Product Award for best truck suspension. And really, the evolution you just mentioned here, you know, starting in 1968 all the way through now, 2024. But the SES kits are really the core of who we are.

And if you, if you would say at, in the level of stiffness on the market, what would you, would you put yourself in more in a heavy duty side for the SES kits or is it more of a lighter duty Yeah, great question. Lighter duty, we certainly can have a product for commercial and heavy duty, but in '82 when SES was introduced, it was purposely introduced for that, that light duty market. So we start with 1500 and again, go all the way up, but by far really popular with that 1500, 2500 crowd. That kinda leads me into my next question. So we talked about, your specialty is kind of in the lighter duty, but do you have an option for the heavier duty for your sprinter vans and maybe for your truck bed campers Yeah, absolutely.

We do have SES kits for truck beds, truck campers with a higher center of gravity. That creates a new kind of set of problems with the sway side to side. So we have severe duty kits for those. And it uses a single convoluted AON versus a double convoluted to tackle that problem of side to side. And the same thing with the sprinter van. It uses a rectangular shape Aon, but it's there to do the same deal that side to side sway because they're so top heavy, it'll eliminate that. Okay. And then we've had an instance here at etrailer that we had a van that was very, very heavy on the one side. Is there anything that you guys can do personally to help, I would say, I guess customize that kit for that particular user Yeah, by all means we would want that individual to contact us. We would ask a couple questions, see where that weight is distributed and we can actually produce an AON with either a stiffer hardness or durometer or a softer durometer and that will help level it out. So yes, we can take care of that for 'em. And I think that'll really, really help people to get their rigs dialed in because who knows what they're putting in the campers afterwards, after they buy 'em. They come from the manufacturer already heavy on that side and they're trying to load stuff on the other side to try to even it out. But knowing that there's a solution that you can customize for your rig no matter what the weight is on either side is really, really cool. Yeah, absolutely. We're happy to take care of 'em and again, there's no charge for that. Awesome. Now to kind of wrap things up, what sets Timbren apart from a lot of other manufacturers out there Well, I think there's a couple things. We're a family run company and our longevity, you can't deny, 1968 to 2024 and our warranty, we have a lifetime warranty regardless of how old it is. We will take care of it, replace it, limited lifetime warranty, and the hundred day money back guarantee. Very cool. And that's whether or not you're the first owner Right. And yeah, we're not asking for receipt, who'd you buy it from It'll be taken care of. Just give us a ring and we'll take care of it for you. Very cool. Well thank you again for meeting with us. Appreciate it. It was a pleasure to work with you. Thank you.

I have not fully loaded my Odyssey yet BUT compare to original “pacifiers” which are made from kinda tough popcorn, those timbers are looking reliable.

by:

Easy installation. Good quality.

by:

Easy to install. Works as advertised. Etrailer rocks!

by:

Installed this on my 2001 Explorer. Install is easy (assemble unit, bolt on in place of existing bump stop). Annoyed to find it doesn't fit. Specs are gap 1/2"-1-1/2"; there was a gap of 2-3/4". Yeah, they sell spacers for $27 each, but it's really annoying to buy a $225 product that says it fits your truck, only to find that you have to spend 50% more to actually adapt it to your truck!

by:

Very easy to install. I got the product in two days. Love etrailer products. THANKS.

by:

Very easy to install took about 30 minutes. If it manages the weight of my trailer I will be more impressed with your product.

by:

Install was a breeze, can't wait to tow our camper with these babies on the Tundra

by:

Fast shipping would definitely recommend

by:

Very easy installation!

Very poor packaging. The box is coming apart and USPS reinforced it. Found out this product doesn,t work on a 2018 Winnebago Intent. It will cost me almost $[XX] to return it.

Customer service was great. Fast delivery. Very easy to install. 35 minutes it was done.

Easy installation and perfect fit!

by:

easy to install, Solved my trailer bouncing over bumps problem.

by:

Very quick delivery, earlier than I expected. Easy to install. Just what was needed for rear weight support when pulling a trailer.

by:

Great job. Will use etrailer again.

by:

Great product there leveled the load and made tow way better.

Thanks

by:

Got them a day ago and installed the next day. Super easy installation.

by:

What a great product. This has made a night and day difference pulling a 5th wheel.

by:

Really not sure it's doing anything. No noticeable difference when towing my camper.

by:

Part was reasonably priced and arrived early. Very happy with the process.

by:

Service is great and product appears to function as advertised. For what it is seems like product is priced a little high. I'd be very surprised if it costs more than $20 to make them.

by:

I bought a set for my F250 and like them so much that I bought a set for my F350. It prevents the vehicle from sagging in the rear when hauling towing heavy objects. Makes for a smoother and more stable riding experience.

  • Suspension Enhancement Recommendations for 2006 Dodge Sprinter Ambulances
Because an ambulance will have a lot of equipment and in it and the the weight of people, the stock suspension will be compressed already. This can lead to the rough ride you described. Adding a Timbren system like # TMBRSP25 for a 2006 Dodge Sprinter 2500 or # TMBRSP35 for a 3500 will reduce the stress on the factory suspension and absorb road shock and reduce roll. This will provide a much better ride. Both sets have a capacity of 8,600 pounds and are made of rubber. I have included...
