Video Transcript for Installing the K-Source Custom Extendable Towing Mirrors on your 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Speaker 1: Today on our 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. We're going to be taking a look at, and show you how to install the K-Source custom extendable towing mirror, part number KS62148G. If you'd like to pick one up for the passenger side, use part number KS62147G. These also come as a set, by using part number KS62147-48G. Here's what our towing mirror looks like when it's installed. It's going to be a custom fit to replace our factory mirror. It's going to have a durable plastic housing with a black textured finish that's going to match nicely with the vehicle.

It's also going to have a heated mirrored glass, for that winter, snow, and ice. The hinge design allows you to fold your mirror in when parking in tight places. It's also going to allow you to telescope your mirror out. It's allow you to see past the side of your trailer. It's going to help with passing on the highway, changing lanes, etc.

And it's going to be fully adjustable from inside the vehicle. Our lower mirror, is going to be our spotter mirror, this is going to help reduce our blind spots. And it's going to be manually adjustable to help maximize our line of sight. Our top mirror here is going to be 6-7/8 wide by 7-3/4. Our lower mirror from top to bottom is going to be 3-1/4. From side to side, it's going to be 6-7/8.

Now that we've gone over some of the features of this mirror, I'm going to show you just how easy it is to get on. First thing we need to do is remove our factory mirror. In order to do that, we're going to have to loosen up our door panel. One thing we're not going to have to do, we're not going to take the door panel all the way off. We're going to have two bolts on the bottom we're going to need to remove. We're going to use a 9/32 socket to remove those.

Next what we're going to do, is we're going to start right here on the side, and we're going to pull out. We're going to work our way around. We're going to have a fastener right here. Take a trim panel tool, flathead screwdriver get it in there, and pop that off. We're just going to take this panel, we're going to pop it off like this. And it's on a seam here, so what we're going to do is we're going to kind of pull back this way. Just lift out like that. Now what I'm going to do, is instead of letting this hang, because it's really, really flimsy, take a piece of tape, just kind of take the weight off of itself. This wire that runs from the back of our mirror, you can see it's got some fasteners on it and they're pushed in it. It runs right down to the plug. We need to remove those. Then all we need to do is with a plug, and then go ahead and pop that off. Pull out like that. And right there, there's a little tab we're going to push in. Push in, and pull out. It'll look like that right there. Next we'll take a 10 millimeter socket, go ahead and loosen up the nut. We're going to come to our outside here. We'll just pop that out and pull the whole cable and everything out. Now on our factory mirror, we only have three mounting locations. On our new one here, we have a fourth one, so we're going to have to drill a hole.Per our instructions, we're going to need to drill this out through a 3/8. But we're going to start with a pilot hole first. Once you got your pilot hole drilled, we're going to finish it out with a 3/8 bit. Now I'm going to use a little bit of clear coat. You can use any color you have, some spray enamel to cover up that bare metal. It will help prevent any rust or corrosion later on. You're not going to see any of it because all this covers it anyway. Next we're going to add some little rubber tabs, or little rubber cover. Go ahead and pull those off. We're going to start from the outside here. We're going to feed our wire through the large hole. We're going to line up of our screw holes. You want to make sure you get that grommet in there, just like that. Now your kit's going to come with four nuts, except the nuts are smaller than those holes. So I recommend using your factory ones that you took off, and then for the fourth one, we're going to use one of the new nuts that come in the kit. And then we're just going to put a washer on the back of it. And we'll go ahead and reinstall our new wire. It's going to come with new fasteners, push pin fasteners here. So we're just going to put them in the same holes that we took out our factory one. Get the plug lined up, just push it into place. Now we can remove our tape. We're going to slide our panel back in like this. Now there's a lip right here on the side, we want to get it around this edge. We're going to go around and make sure that lip is all the way around all of it. Then you just want to make sure you push that fastener back in. Then we can start putting our door panel back together. We're just going to go around the edge. You're just going to make sure it's all popped into place. Once that's done, you can replace your two screws at the bottom. That'll do it for our look at it and installation on the K Source custom extendable towing mirror, part number KS62148G on our 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.

I purchased a pair of K source towing mirrors fora 2014 Silverado 1500. The quality is pretty good, and the install was made easy thanks to you tube

by:

Mirrors work good. Very happy with them,
online
videos on installation helps especially with removing door trim pieces which for me was the majority of the time and difficulty. It plugged into existing wire harness and everything works like it did with OEM mirrors (able to control tilt using door buttons, etc.) I just wished they would have sent the nuts with washers like OEM. I used on the OEM original nuts since it had washer base on the 3 but had to go buy a washer for the 4th nut since the 3/8 hole almost allows nut to go through the hole.

These towing mirrors were exactly what I wanted. They fit my 2001 GMC Yukon XL perfectly, utilizing the existing hardware for adjustments and defrost. They extend easily (manually) when towing our pontoon boat, and collapse (manually) against the vehicle when going through a car wash. I should have purchased these years ago, instead of waiting until one of the original ones broke!

Looked around at several mirrors from different vendors. Decided that these looked the best. The package was delivered promptly just a couple days after I placed the order online.

These mirrors were a perfect replacement for my 2007 Chevrolet Silverado Classic Extended Cab. The installation was a breeze. The included instructions went step by step. The heat and electric cables plugged right in where the old mirrors were. It even came with the clips already on the cables to clip to the door. They will be very helpful when towing our camper. There is no vibration when going down the road. He bottom convex mirrors really help with blind spots. I wish I had done this earlier.

Fits great fairly easy install.

I installed these ksource mirrors on my 2006 Chevy Silverado and as advertised the installation was an exact fit. It took approximately 30 minutes per side to install. The mirrors were an exact fit and the wiring was an exact match. I recommend these mirrors for anyone pulling any type RV needing full side views and beyond on either side of the towing unit. Thanks etrailer once again.!!!

by:

It took me about 2 1/2 hours to install. The biggest problem was disconnecting the electrical connection on the first one. I did notice that when drilling the holes, iron filings were falling down by where electrical connection so I stuck a rag down there to prevent them from getting in the connection and messing it up. Putting on the second one took less than a 1/2 hour after I knew what I was doing. The video was a tremendous help. Written instructions would have been worthless to me. Extremely satisfied with how they turned out and look.

by:

Excellent fit! They look factory. Install is straightforward and didn't take 45 minutes to install both sides. Watch the install video for a quick reference. These were on back order at the time I placed my order. etrailer staff kept me informed and updated as status changed all the way to delivery. Excellent customer service once again. This is my 4th purchase from etrailer and I'll use them again!

After recently purchasing a travel trailer my wife and I knew we needed to upgrade our stock truck mirrors to trailering mirrors. I searched many websites for the right set of mirrors. Etrailer.com hit the mark. Not only did they have the extendable mirrors we were seeking, they also had a price within our budget. These mirrors come as a set. They filled my order promptly and the package arrived in a couple of days. The installation for both mirrors took only 2 hours. They function well and look great!

by:

The mirrors fit perfic and had no issues installing them in my truck. I like the product and it's almost the same as the original one. When I had the old ones, they made a lot of noise when I was adjusting the mirrors. And this ones theirs no noise . Just silence when adjusting the mirrors.

by:

I absolutely love these mirrors! Very easy to install, about 15 minutes per door. Adjustable from inside and no shake. Can't wait to pull the RV with these mirrors instead of the clamp-ons.

by:

Love the mirrors, exactly what I needed. ETrailer would get 5 stars if not for a bit of a fit problem. Both sides fail to make contact with the window molding at the top of the triangle (pics). A separation angle begins just above the main body and pulls further away from the window molding to the tip of the triangle. The passenger side is gapped worse 1/4" than the driver side but both will undoubtedly allow water seepage into the door frame. Would hate to have to caulk these things but tightening and shimming with washers has not worked to change angles at top.Thinking over solutions to save this install.

by:

Ordered this set of mirrors for my 2017 Chevy Silverado 2500HD. I found them to be a much higher quality product than a similar-appearing one I ordered from another company. Had to drill another hole in the door frame for the additional mounting bolt, which was easy, but the result was a very sturdy mounting. A test ride over a washboarded dirt road showed very little vibration in the mirrors. These mirrors will make towing trailers much easier and safer.

Great mirrors easy to install.

by:

Great mirror after one year I have no issues they are quality made I highly recommend

by:

Received the mirrors in good shape...frankly, chose to have them professionally installed via body shop to make sure all went well...and it went very well...great product and appreciated the help getting them selected for the right vehicle...would recommend these mirrors and this company to anyone...

by:

Impressed with the simplicity, ease of installation and above standard quality of these mirrors. The fit is to OEM quality and they look as if they came on the truck. Satisfied to the fullest.

by:

The mirror was a direct match. Looks just like the OEM mirror (I was quoted $375 for the OEM mirror) but at a fraction of the cost. I was able to install myself in about 20 minutes. My 2016 2500 HD WT had all four holes already so there was no drilling (some trucks apparently only have 3 bolts on the OEM mirror). Looks good as new.

by:

The fit and finish of the product is fine and the installation is pretty straight forward.

Drilling a hole for a 4th bolt is required for this installation on a 2017 Silverado 1500. The 4th bolt requires a washer and nut that are not included.

The biggest criticism I have of this product is that the directional adjustments from the drivers door control are inaccurate. Want the mirror to go left? It moves more downward than left. You have to get the mirror very close by hand in order to fine tune it with the drivers door control. My passenger side mirror will not adjust upward. It will only adjust left/right/down.

The problems associated with these mirrors aren't worth the trouble of removing them, reinstalling the ORM mirrors and waiting for replacement mirrors. I'll keep them but I can't recommend the K-Source mirrors.

by:

They look good and they do the job! Installation was rough at first, most vehicles aren’t the same so we had to figure it out for ourselves, but all in all it wasn’t bad. Customer service was excellent tho! They shipped two of the passenger side windows instead of each driver and passenger. They responded and got the other mirror sent out quickly. But then when I received that mirror, the brackets holding it in were broken and the mirror wouldn’t stay in place. I eventually got them on and they look good but there were many complications in the process

by:

I installed them on my 2018 Silverado. The fit is good and they look like they came with the truck. Not extended the outside edges of the mirrors are 8'-2" and extended they're 8'-10". They enable me to see around and past my enclosed 8'-4" wide trailer. If you've never been inside a door panel before I'd suggest watching a couple of videos prior to starting. I had to drill one hole in the door (original had 3 bolts this has a fourth stud). I'd have given them a 5 star except the glass shakes slightly when they're fully extended and I hope that doesn't get worse.

by:

Perfect fit. George was very professional and helped me pick the right mirrors for my Chevrolet Silverado. I tow a fifth wheel and no vibration like the clip on mirrors. very satisfied with your outstanding service. Will continue to do buisness with etrailer. Next purchase will be airbag system.

  • Replacement Glass For K Source Towing Mirror?
Hey Todd, Besides that glass I hope the mirrors are working well for you! We do not carry just the replacement glass for those mirrors. We do have # KS62147G, which is just the passenger side mirror assembly as a replacement. I spoke with my contact at K Source and they advised it is not a replacement part they offer either. You would need to get the mirror assembly as a whole to get that replaced. Let me know what you think of that option.

  • WIll K-Source Power Function Still Work on 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 Mirrors With Power But No Heat
Yes, the power function will still work on the mirrors on your 2017 Silverado 1500. Basically, any of the functions you have will carry over. If you don't have that function then it won't work on the new mirrors. For your truck you will need the # KS62136G for the driver side and # KS62147G for the passenger side. There are no options for power mirrors without the heat function.

Great question! The # KS62147-48G K-Source Extendable Replacement towing mirrors include both the passenger and driver's side mirrors. Each mirror features 2 panes of glass.
