When you need to keep tools, gear, or groceries safe from both weather and theft, the RetraxPRO MX does the job. The cover is built from impact-resistant, 1"-thick aluminum slats that lock together for strength and security. When closed and paired with a locked tailgate, it creates a sealed barrier that can’t be pried up like a soft cover. The matte black finish resists scratches, fading, and corrosion so it stays looking clean and solid even after years of sun and storms.

Loading oversized cargo doesn’t mean removing the cover. The RetraxPRO MX rolls open and closed on sealed ball-bearing rollers that never need lubrication, so it slides easily with one hand using the pop-up handle. You can stop and latch it at any point along the rails to cover smaller gear at the bulkhead while leaving space for longer items at the tailgate. When you need the entire bed, the cover retracts into a compact canister that keeps it protected and out of the way.

Keeping your bed clean and dry comes down to fit and sealing. The RetraxPRO MX uses automotive-grade weather stripping and foam seals on all sides to block out water, dust, and debris. The cover overlaps the top of the tailgate, and drain tubes route any water that enters the canister through the truck bed’s existing drainage points. This system keeps the cover dry inside and prevents mildew or buildup.

Strength matters when snow piles up or when you need to stack gear on top. The RetraxPRO MX is rated to support up to 500 lbs of evenly distributed weight. The aluminum slats and reinforced frame stay rigid under load and won’t sag or warp. Even after years of use, the low-profile design—just 1" above the bed rails—keeps a clean, streamlined look without compromising durability.
Installing the RetraxPRO MX doesn’t require cutting or drilling. The side rails clamp directly to the bed rails, and the pre-assembled canister drops into place with basic tools. Once squared and tightened, the system stays secure and aligned, giving you a smooth retracting motion and a professional fit without modification.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the RetraxPro MX Hard Tonneau Cover in matte black. You can upgrade your old tonneau cover and not have to worry about any snapping or hook and loop connections. The RetraxPro MX Hard Tonneau Cover is the best way to cover up your truck bed. One of it's great features is, it can be locked anywhere along the rails you please. It's perfect for keeping your gear dry, covering up that fifth wheel head and you can even use it to secure your elongated cargo. The latch itself doubles as a handle. When you're ready to lock it, it sits flush within the cover and you can lock it up with the included keys.
When you've done that you can put the cover over top. The whole thing rolls up into the flush mounted box for a low profile design. It only takes up about 12 inches of space behind your cab. It's a simple clamp on installation and the rails only sit about an 1-1/4" high on top of our truck bed rails. Here on the inside they take up about 1-3/4". The sealed ball bearing rollers within the cover make opening and closing easy.
And because they're sealed, they're maintenance free. The whole thing is made out of an industrial strength aluminum, it's gonna keep out the elements and it can support distributed loads of up to 500 pounds. When used with the locking tailgate, it's furthers your security. The whole thing is UV protected and it features a limited lifetime warranty. It's an easy no drill installation, it simply attaches to your truck bed rails with the provided clamps. And that's going to complete our look at the RetraxPro MX Hard Tonneau Cover.

After about a year owning this cover, I still would buy it again. If you set it up right in the first place, it will work flawlessly. The locking mechanism still works great. The rolling part still works great. Aside from a solid cover, this is the most secure cover I have ever had. It does get some drips of water inside after washing the truck but its not enough to worry about, even if you had a bed full of stuff.

So on the plus side, love how it opens all the way up. When were loading the bed for travel, I need it fully open. Downside is the amount of room the canister takes up and the water as previously mentioned. Still quite easy to use!

Install looks great Jesse! We couldn’t agree more about the instructions. Honestly, unclear instructions are exactly why we started making our own install videos many moons ago, because seeing it done can make all the difference. It’s good to hear the cover feels solid and slides smoothly once installed. Your notes on water sealing and debris are fair, especially with RamBox-equipped beds and tailgate fitment. We appreciate you sharing your experience, and we hope it continues to serve you well over time.
