Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if they might affect your ABS/EPS functionality, consult your owner's manual.
These pewag ladder-patterned chains are great winter weather chains for your SUV, truck, or 4WD vehicle. Not only do the grooved square links dig into deep snow and ice better than rounded or standard square links, but the reversible design of these chains also allows them to wear under standard use much longer than other chains. And if you're partial to American-made products, you'll be happy to know that these are made in Colorado.
If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.
We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.
You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.
Installing these chains is simple.
1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.
2. Drape the chains over your tires, making sure that the prongs attaching the cross chains to the side chains face away from your sidewalls. Drive forward about half a tire rotation.
3. On the back of the tire, pull the chain tight and hook the ends together. Repeat this on the front of the tire.
4. Drive forward 2-3 vehicle lengths and recheck the chains tension. If needed, rubber adjusters (sold separately) can be used to get a tight fit. Make sure the hooks on the adjusters face away from your tire so your wheels don't get scratched.
Quick Tips:
To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Hey, it's Ethan here at etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Pewag All Square snow tire chains on our 2022 Nissan Frontier. This is gonna be on tire size 265/65R-17. Make sure you check the fit guide at etrailer.com. Just type in your year, make, and model to find the right chains for your size. Also, we have them on the rear tire.
As for the owner's manual, make sure you're double checking that too, to make sure that everything is right. But basically these are gonna be a good set of chains for you if you live in an area that gets a decent amount of moderate weather pretty often, whether that be moderate snow and maybe even some light ice. These are gonna be sort of an in-between as far as profile and shape go, but they're gonna be pretty aggressive at the same time, so let's check 'em out. They're a ladder pattern style chain which means they just go parallel to one another across our tire. It's gonna give you really good traction when you're starting and stopping.
But with that design as well as the large square links, you're definitely gonna feel that a little bit more while you're driving, which is sort of why they're a little bit more of an aggressive style chain. Here you can see they have those grooves built in as well. So that combined with those large square links is gonna get you that really nice bite into the ice and snow that I mentioned. But because they do have a high profile, again, you're definitely gonna feel these while you're driving but you shouldn't be going faster than 30 miles an hour either way. So that shouldn't be a huge deal.
The links are made of a manganese nickel alloy so they're gonna be really strong and sturdy and they're gonna hold up really well to rust, weather and corrosion and long-term use, more so than a low carbon steel chain would. Down here we have this lever which is the only real way to get tension into the chains which is both a pro and a con depending on how you look at it. So some other chains that are similar have cams that go around which gets you that initial tension really nicely. But if you're using them for certain purposes those cams can tend to come undone and then you'll lose that tension in your chains. So with this, you only have one connection or two counting the one in the back, to worry about coming loose.
So that could go either way. But as far as the tensioning goes we do recommend using one of these rubber tensioners like I'll talk about in the install, just to make sure that you have everything secure as you're moving along. The tend to shift around. The chains do come two to a set in this sort of lightweight nylon bag. It's not my favorite. It's okay for the first time they arrive, but if you wanna store them in here, I'd recommend against it just cause the chains are large, heavy, they have a lot of points to them on these hooks and they'll tend to break that bag down pretty easily. So if you do get these chains, we recommend picking up some kind of like plastic tote, something a little bit more sturdy to keep them in. That way you can keep the chains in some oil or some lubricant, whatever, in the off season in that bag or that tote. But overall, the install process of these chains isn't too bad. You just have a couple connections. You do have to get down and around underneath your car to make that back connection. So we recommend trying it out in your garage beforehand. Make sure you know what you're doing before you find yourself stranded on the side of the road trying to figure it out. But you can check out how we did that right now. First step of the install process is to lay the chains out as flat as you can. We just wanna make sure that nothing is wrapped around itself or twisted up or tangled. We also want to make sure that we have this lever over here on the side facing us. We're gonna have to interact with that after we make our connection and we wanna make sure that the chains are facing the right way. To do that, we use these large hoops at the end of each set of links. We wanna make sure that we have this flat side facing down. We want that making contact with the tread of our tire, rather than these hooks on the other end. We wanna avoid those making any contact. So the way we have them right now is perfect. Once we have the chains centered up and laid out where we need them to be, I'll start the process by grabbing these two sets of links in the back and we'll drape the chain slowly over our tire doing our best to make sure that everything is equal, front to back and side to side. Four our connection on the back, it's just a matter of fitting this hook into one of these loose links. We've got a good amount of give right here so I'm gonna go for the- Actually I'll go for the third link 'cause we don't have any other tensioning besides that lever on the front. So I'll go for the third link in our case. We can come back and adjust that later if we need to. For the connection on the front, we need to fit this lever through one of the loose links on the other side. Again, I'm gonna go with the third one in our case. Slide that through, lever it back, and then we'll fit that into this loose link on the other side, just like that. From here, like I mentioned, that lever is the only way we get tension into our chains and although they are tight for now when we start moving, they'll tend to shift around. So we always recommend installing one of these rubber tensioners with these style of chains as well. Just going in sort of a pattern you would when you're taking a tire off or putting it on, following sort of a star shape. I like to kind of try to use this bottom one to trap this lever down in there. So just try to feed that in the front of that. And like I mentioned, when you're bumping along ice and snow, the chains are gonna tend to shift and this rubber tensioner is just gonna be a backup way to make sure everything is nice and secure. Once you've got that tensioner in place, make sure you get the chains installed on your passenger side tire as well. Roll forward or backwards a few times just to make sure that everything is in place and secure still and then you're ready to go. Overall these chains are sort of an in between as far as aggressiveness, like I've mentioned a couple times. If you want a similar bite but a little bit lower profile, less fuel while you're driving, you can check out some twist link chains. If you need some off-road chains, really heavy duty, we have some with studs too as well. so you can sort of check around, look at our product pages and our videos, try to find a chain that works really well for you. But again, if you live in an area where you're expecting a decent amount of moderate weather pretty frequently and you need chains that are going to get the job done and hold together for a good amount of time, these are a great option. This again was just a look at the Pewag All Square snow tire chains and how they fit on our 2022 Nissan Frontier.

Get excellent traction in extreme conditions. Grooved links and ladder pattern provide traction for your wide-base tires in snow, ice, and mud. Reversible design allows for wear on either side for long-lasting chains. No levers or cams to come loose.I am pleased with these tire chains. There are easy to hook up and tighten down well. I have yet to break a link. They are not any more noisy than any other chain. When breaking they do not tend to slide. When using the chain adjusters, there is no banging of excess chain on the vehicle. shipping was fast and well packed. Would purchase again. Highly recommend the chain adjusters.
I got these chains for my 3500 Ram with 10 ply E rated Hankook I-Pike winter tires size 245-75-17. I had first ordered PWE3210S that the manufacturer said would fit, but the chains were a few inches too short. Vanessa at E-trailer worked with me and she was in contact with Pewag numerous times to ensure a proper fit on the second set of chains and they fit perfectly. I really cant believe how good of customer service these folks at E-trailer provide, outstanding!!

One year later the chains are working well, they did come loose once even with the proper blue colored spider type rubber tightener. Luckily I caught it before any damage was caused. I check them regularly. I would definitely recommend these chains for off pavement usethats all I use them for..
Have purchased this item before, very satisfied. fast delivery, packaged well arrived when stated and in good order. Would order again.

After a year of owning these chaims, I am very pleased. I take them with me whenever I travel in the winter months. They have not failed me yet. I will replace them in the future when and if they fail.
Heavy duty and fit was good on my Tundra. Easy to put on by laying middle over top of the tire and attaching link on bottom.

I used the chain while visiting Sequoia Natl Park in Feb. I wasnt easy putting the chains on like the video. Also, Glacier Multi-Arm Tire Chain Tensioners didnt fit. They were way too short. Chains did fit eventually, but with lots of effort, and did provide good traction.
very sturdy chains and fast delivery!
After a mishap with USPS losing half my chain set, etrailer customer service quickly sent out a replacement with UPS, that standard in quality shipping. The chains themselves seem nice, albeit a bit difficult to install but I’ve never mounted dually chains before and perhaps it’s my fault. My duals seem awfully close together and the middle chain section comes up short. The correct size was purchased so I don’t know what’s going on. Added a few links and it’s secured. -Star for the shipping debacle that wasn’t really etrailers fault. That’s really on USPS.
These arrived, and I put them on in the garage to test fit, and they appear to be perfect. I had to buy two sets, to cover front and rear tires. My tires are 33x12.50x15, and at some point I plan to move up to 35x12.50x15 and understand these will cover those tires too.
So I expect to be covered in extreme ice conditions.
Very easy to install at home in the garage. I did also purchase the orange chain tensioner's, and they work nicely too. But I really may not need them, as I was able to get these very snug by using 3rd and 4th tightening links. I watched the video that explains how to stack the loose links so they don't flop around too much.
etrailer was a pleasure to work with, products arrived quickly.
Chains work great on snow and ice in harsh Montana winters. Easy to install, but I wish they came with a retention system for the excess links at the connection points. I just use a small bungee to secure them and prevent them from hitting brake lines and wheel liners. Used with heavy duty rubber spider tensioner.
great product and a great web site they have what you need for towing and more
We had just been through a bad ice storm and couldn't get out of our acreage. A second storm was coming, so I called Jesse M to select and purchase a set of chains for my truck. Jesse M was able to ship them the same day, and they arrived in the nick-of-time. If I hadn't had these chains, my family would have been stranded.
Thanks Jesse M!!
I had to use both sets of chains to leave from my elk hunting camp in CO. Lots of snow and mud. Chains were fairly easy easy to put on and take off and worked flawlessly. The square links really bit into the ice, no slippage involved. I work in remote areas with heavy equipment and bad roads and everyone uses Pewag chains and loves them. Not cheap, but worth every penny.
Fit was great. Extra chain was easy to secure.
I just received the chains yesterday, a fairly quick turn around given the weight and they were out of stock. They appear to be good quality, I've yet to use them. A note, the shipping cardboard box was torn wide open upon arrival on 3 of the 4 corners, I would recommend a better quality box for shipping or contents are going to go missing. Nothing appeared to be damaged inclusive of the other items I ordered. I can imagine that most arrive this way due to the sheer weight of the chains....but still. If I needed more chains and or other items, I "would" order from etrailer.com again.
delivery was very fast. Thanks
Tire chains arrived in a timely manner, and everything worked great!
Have had these for less than a year and they're already cracked and rough-looking. Hoping this is just aesthetic but I'm afraid they're going to fail soon!
Just got chains, came when said they would. Put them on they fit fine and got good traction. First set of chains I have ordered for a pickup. They a little lighter weight than I expected. But other chains i have used have been on farm equipment and were made from heaver material. I wouldn't purchase anything lighter weight or cheaper than these unless your using them solely for on road use. On a 2018 Silverado 1500 18" wheels pickup the chains fit well, but you definitely need the chain tightening bunge or the chains do hit the fenders on the rear. Not the chains fault, just GM should have left more space between the rear wheels and the fenders.
Just received them and test fitted them on my Falken Wildpeak AT3W 275/65R18 backtires. It was a tight fit, but they made it, plus the tires are brand new. Havent used them yet, but they seem well made.
Estimated ship time from eTrailer was inaccurate since the product turned out not to be in stock; had to wait an additional week before delivery.
However the chains did fit my 2015 RAM 2500 Power Wagon with stock tires (Duratrac 285/70-17) and wheels. The rear left parking brake cable is VERY close (~1/2 inch) from the chain, so I had to use a zip tie to keep the extra links from slapping against the cable. There was plenty of clearance up front and on the rear right. Glacier rubber adjusters (PW99) are necessary to remove chain slack.
Worth their weight in gold! Wouldn't buy any other tire chain after using these. Square links makes the difference and has gotten my 2001 F250 Superduty out of some tricky situations up on fire roads in the winter time with a load of snowmobiles on my flatbed. I honestly should buy another pair to have all 4 tires covered but they take up some space. Still, these chains are the cats meow!
I hadn't planned on leaving a review based on my experience but received the email reminder to rate these chains. Others have had a good experience so I'm hopeful I may have just had bad luck. These were on my plow truck which is only used on my long dirt driveway. After 4 plows I had a link break at the joint of the tread and outside chain. I repaired it and shortly after another one broke on the same tire and one broke on the other tire. I've been running chains for years so I'm fairly certain this wasn't an installation problem.
The chains appear to be high quality and I like the square links.
I give it an average rating because I hope my experience is out of the norm.
If you are looking for the strongest chains these are the ones for you. Only used mine a handful of times so far on the lake and no issue at all getting traction and absolutely no sign of wear!!! Called last year to verify the size of fitment for my truck. 285-65-r18. Very friendly and helpful staff but the chains were too big when received and I was able to take one cross section out and cut the rest off for perfect fitment. Otherwise 5 star quality product.
First set of chains broke in a month. Replaced under warranty. Second set of chains broke in a couple months. Didn't bother to replace them because I feel bad about doing it twice
