  • Link thickness: 5.6 mm (0.22")
  • Quantity: 2 chains
  • 90-Day warranty

Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if they might affect your ABS/EPS functionality, consult your owner's manual.

These pewag ladder-patterned chains are great winter weather chains for your SUV, truck, or 4WD vehicle. Not only do the grooved square links dig into deep snow and ice better than rounded or standard square links, but the reversible design of these chains also allows them to wear under standard use much longer than other chains. And if you're partial to American-made products, you'll be happy to know that these are made in Colorado.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Snow Chains

Installing these chains is simple.

Lay chains on the ground to get all the tangles out

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.

Drape chains over tire.

2. Drape the chain over your tires, making sure that the prongs attaching the cross chains to the side chains face away from your sidewalls. Drive forward about half a tire rotation.

Connect the chain behind the tire

3. On the back of the tire, pull the chain tight and hook the ends together. Repeat this on the front of the tire.

Twist cams

4. Insert the included tool into the cam and twist to tighten the sidewall chain. Twist as many cams as it takes to get a tight fit.

Attach optional tensioners

5. Drive forward 2-3 vehicle lengths and recheck the chain tension. Tighten any loose cams. If needed, rubber adjusters (sold separately) can help you get a tight fit. Make sure the hooks on the adjusters face away from your tire so your wheels don't get scratched.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Very happy with purchase

by:

Works as it should.

by:

Excellent quality, service, and follow up.

by:

Same chains I already own. Long lasting chain

by:

As described. Arrived on time.

by:

Appears to be of high quality. Ordered 2 sets and arrived in a timely manner.

by:

Didn't include a cam wrench, or a recommendation to order the wrench separately. What came is what I ordered but not what I needed to use the product. So: average.

by:

Great product. Use Pewag's sizing chart.

by:

We use these on our Frieghtliner M2's and these are the only chains that we haven't had break. I will only use pewag in the future.

by:

Used Christmas Eve in 10 inches of snow. F150 climbed two miles, up to a mountain neighborhood, for family gathering. Easy to fit. Didn't loosen.

by:

I've not used the chains as of yet, however, the quality of the chains is unbelievable...
If your on the fence about which brand to buy consider this to be a great choice if you are looking for quality and satisfaction.

Hi Carol,

The chain packaging was
op0ened and looked pre-used with holes in the sack as well.

There were no cable ends included to pull the chains over the tires so I am unsure these are correct for 235/55 R20 tires as listed. For now will use another vehicle, I may need to exchange thes, ideally that will not be a problem for you guys.

thank you!

by:

Overpriced compared to competitors by 100% Have yet to check size

by:

Nice Chains---The chains we received were for a light truck. The tires we have are P215 70R15 and the chains do not fit. We need 2 more links to make them even come close to closing. We have the truck in the garage in ideal conditions--but if we were out on the road---this is impossible. Sent an e-mail to e-trailers and waiting for a response. Also, 2 of the side links have been put on backwards from the factory.

by:

the chains showed up and appear to be correct, thank you

by:

Great set of chains, fit as they should, and best of all, THEY ARE NOT FROM CHINA. The service from etrailer was great as usual.

by:

Service that can’t be beat. Ordered and received snow chains in mere days and just before the January 2022 blizzard . Pamela, you’re awesome.

by:

These chains are excellent. Made in USA from what appears to be an Austrian company. This size fit a 2019 lX570 very well. 275/50-21 Way easier to install and more traction than cable chains.

  • Difference Between Pewag Snow Tire Chains PWE2221SC and PWE2221S
The part # PWE2221SC comes with cam tensioners to help get the correct tension in the tire chains whereas the # PWE2221S does not come with the cam tensioners. The product pictures for both chains makes this confusing since they both show cam tensioners (the half circle metal piece with a slot you see between the sections of chain that run over the tread of the tire) but only the # PWE2221SC actually comes with them.

  • Pewag Snow Chain Recommendation for a P235/65/R17 Tire on a 2007 Toyota Highlander
There are several sets of chains that will fit your P235/65/R17 tires, but the Pewag All Square Snow Tire Chains # PWE2221SC that you referenced are not confirmed to fit your tire size. I attached a link to all chains that will work for that tire size, but the one that is close to the set you referenced would be the Pewag All Square Snow Tire Chains # PWE2211SC. I attached FAQ articles on snow chains for you to check out also. You will still need to check with your owners manual to determine...

  • Available Glacier Tire Chains With Cam Tighteners For 2008 Toyota Tacoma
We do not have a Glacier brand that matches, but a good choice is the Pewag # PWE2221SC all square tire chains with cam tighteners and square links, and rated for deep snow. You might also consider the Titan # TC2221SCAM chains with cams and d-links. The prices for any of the products we offer can be found on our website by simply entering the part number in the search box.

  • Availability of Cleated Snow Chains for a 2003 Toyota Tundra with 265/65-17 Tires
At this time we do not have snow chains with cleats for the 265/65-17 tires that are on your vehicle. The most aggressive snow tire chains we have for the 265/65-17 tire size are the Pewag All Square Snow Tire Chains, item # PWE2221SC. These chains have cam tighteners to easily tighten the chains on your vehicle tires and keep them tight. The chains you selected, item # PWE2221S, do not have cam tighteners and are a bit harder to install but also work well. You should check your vehicle...

  • What Does Clearance Refer To When Selecting Snow Tire Chains
Clearance refers to the clearance from the top and sides of the tires to the fender wells on your vehicle. You want to make sure there is plenty of room between the tires and the suspension components and body of the truck. Usually there is plenty of clearance on trucks, but you will want to check your vehicle owners manual to see if tire chains are allowed to be used or recommended for your Chevrolet C/K Series Truck. If your truck is lowered or has modified suspension or wheels, clearance...

  • Are the pewag All Square Snow Tire Chains # PWE2221SC Made in the U.S.A.?
When considering the country of origin of pewag chains like the # PWE2221SC, it truly depends on which chain model. I am happy to report, though, that the # PWE2221SC are made here in the U.S.A. They are confirmed to fit your 1999 Dodge Ram Pickup with size 245/75-16 tires. As with all tire chains, I recommend consulting with your vehicle's owner's manual to make sure you are abiding by all of the manufacturer's guidelines.

  • Heavy Duty Tire Chains To Fit My LT235/85x16 Blizzak Snow Tires
The Titan Chain Tire Chains # TC2221SHD are indeed heavy duty. The extra coating makes them extremely hard and should not break on you. Although these chains are designed for a vehicle and not for a skid steer. The way your skid will twist these chains when turning is going to be putting a lot more stress on the chains than what they were really designed to take. I have not tested these chains with a skid before so I cannot confirm that these will not snap under the intense load. It may...

  • Will a Diesel Truck Wear Out Pewag Tire Chains Faster
Provided you are not out there spinning the tires while the chains are on you will not have a problem with the Pewag chains wearing out! Not only are the chains corrosion-resistant nickel manganese alloy steel chains but they are also reversible. So if you do ever wear out the one side, just flip them over and its like a whole new set of chains. The Pewag square-link chains are among the best that you can get. I haven't heard of anyone wearing them out yet. I have included a link to our...

  • Should Tire Chains go On Rear Axle of 4WD Vehicle
With snow chains you want to install them on the primary drive axle of the vehicle. For a 4WD Chevy Tahoe you would want to install them on the rear axle. You should also check the owners manual of your vehicle as well to determine if there are any tire chains restrictions as well.
