Features to know about

Climbing Snowy Grades Without Losing Grip: Twist-Link Design Bites In Deep

When you’re facing packed snow, slush, or icy roads, the twist-link chain design really helps you dig in. The twisted links bite into the surface better than standard round links, giving you the traction you need to pull through deep snow or slick inclines without spinning out. It’s a dependable grip for tough winter driving and wide-base tires that see heavy snow.

Less Time in the Cold: Built-In Cam Tighteners Make Setup Simple

Getting chains snug on your tires can be tricky, especially in bad weather, but the built-in cam-style side chains take the struggle out. Once they’re wrapped on, just twist the cams to pull each chain tight around the tire. That quick tensioning means you spend less time adjusting in the snow and more time driving with confidence.

Reliable for Highway Snow Runs: Ladder Pattern Keeps You Steady

Designed for on-road use, the ladder-style pattern of these chains gives a smooth, consistent ride while improving straight-line traction on snowy highways. You’ll feel the chains grip evenly across the surface, which helps keep you stable and steady when the snow piles up on your regular routes.

Built to Last Through Harsh Winters: Low-Carbon Steel Holds Strong

Each link is made from low-carbon steel for lasting durability through repeated use. The steel construction handles the strain of winter driving conditions without bending or breaking down. With proper care, you can count on these chains to keep performing season after season.

Ready for Wide-Base Tires: Fits 20" to 22-1/2" Sizes

These chains are built for high-flotation, super-single, or wide-base-rim tires, and they can even handle dual-tire setups when spacing allows. With coverage for 20" to 22-1/2" tires, they’re ideal for larger setups that need serious traction capability in snowy conditions.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Glacier Twisted Length Snow Tire Chain with cam tensioners. These are available in a wide variety of sizes to fit many different applications. Designed for highway use and not intended for off road applications, our tire chains do have a 30 mile an hour speed rating. As you can see, we've got a twisted length design. That gives us a raised edge on two points of our length to help get good traction for when we're taking off and stopping. They've constructed it using a low carbon steel, so we're not going to have to worry about a ton of corrosion. These chains have been designed for highway use.

They've got a rounded edge, it kind of smooths out our ride going down the road. Also, these chains are great for use on the rear axle or the front axle of front wheel drive and rear wheel drive vehicles. They've designed it in a ladder style. This is going to help us with taking off and stopping in a straight line so that this chain is going to go all the way across our tire. Now that we've gone over the features, let's show you how to get this installed. As you can see, we've spread it out here to check to make sure we have all the twists out and things like that, make sure we don't have any kinks.

Then we'll grab the side away from our tensioners. We just want to work this up and over our tire. We'll set this so that our front ladder rung or the first cross chain will sit there in front of the vehicle. Now it's time to roll it forward and allow those lengths to go underneath our wheel there. As you can see, we've got it up to about our third or fourth spot here. We'll now take the tag end, we're going to connect it on one of the six lengths there.

Let's do the fourth one, what I like to do is let those hang down so we're getting a direct connect onto our length. As you can see, we do have three extras hanging over there on the back side. We'll bring it around to the front. We've got a plus or a minus of one, so we have the option of using the third the fourth or the fifth length. I think the fourth is going to serve our purpose here. Bring that through, cam that over and there's a spare length that's hanging out here.

That's just going to go over and hold that into place for us. It's now time to start tightening our tensioners. We'll use our tensioning tools, place it in and rotate them around. As you can see, that's going to draw in some of the slack we've got and get each of our lengths of chains nice and tight. Now that we've got all of our cams tight, you'll see our chain's tightened up. We still have three excess lengths hanging off of each side of our chain here. One option would be to try to tuck that in behind our chain, to where it's not going to be flipping around. The other option would just be to cut it right off there, remove it completely. That way you won't have to worry about it slipping out as you're heading down the road. As with any manually adjusted chain, we do recommend the use of a chain tensioner. The one I've got here today is a really neat one from Glacier, the part number on it is PW105. It's got six lengths on it, as you can see, you're just going to connect those kind of evenly around our tire. That one's not so even. Kind of connect those evenly around, that's going to give us that extra little bit of force that we need to really hold our chains in place. Now that we've seen how the chain installs and how it's going to fit onto our vehicle, let's take a look and see how it performs with some footage we have of it in action. That will complete today's look at the Glacier Twist Length Snow Tire Chains with cam tighteners. .

I recently purchased a new Ram 3500 to pull our new Keystone Outback travel trailer. My Tundra just couldn't do the job. We do a lot of national forest camping and trail riding. I have a Diamondback ATV Carrier so we can put both ATVs on the truck, hook up the trailer and go. I've used eTrailer for years and knew right where to go for my additions for the Ram. Air bag suspension and snow/mud chains were my first purchases. I haven't had a chance to chain up yet, but I know they will be fine. Its a shame the set for my Tundra doesn't fit. However, I mounted the air bags right away and immediately went on a 3600 mile round trip, Colorado Springs to Washington DC. They worked flawlessly. The ride was smooth, no porpoising, and no leaks. I recommend eTrailer every chance I get and will always go here first for my truck and trailer parts. They simply can't be beat in price, ease of ordering, quick delivery and their outstanding customer service.

I've looked for weeks for chains to fit my 34x10.5-17 tires but without luck. I even called a few other tire chain folks and they told me they couldn't help me. I then tried another search online and came across etrailer.com. They said they not only had a set of chains but they were in stock and could be shipped out the same day. They arrived in 2 days. I fit them on my truck and they fit perfectly. They are very heavy duty and exactly as etrailer said they would be. These guys are the best and I'll be referring folks to them. Thank you etrailer!!

Used my new chains for the first time this morning and they were great! Was trying to go thru frozen corn snow which is extremely difficult. Put them on the front tires so I could be sure to stay on the road plus the extra weight of the engine gives you better traction. Each time the tires started spinning from the resistance I just backed off on the accelerator and the chains just kept eating through the snow and I made it up the hill which I really didn't expect to do!

I bought some "cable" chains for my last pickup and they just didn't do the job. These heavy links give you much better traction.

Had some issues with the tighteners staying locked but next time I'll just hook the Glacier Multi Arm Adjuster (which worked great also!) thru the end of the tightener and this should fix that issue!

These chains worked as desired. My son and I installed them in the drive (I wanted my son to know how to install if he was out alone and needed them when he went off to college). They fit perfectly and installed with no issues.

As for them working properly in the snow, I cannot report anything as we did not need to use them. Clear roads and no storms while we traveled.

They did work as I had hoped though. If you buy emergency gear and take it with you, you will usually never need it. And that was the case with the chains, bought them, put them in a carry bag with extra gloves, a ground cloth, and other supplies and there was no storm. Just perfect weather, dry roads and good travels.

I appreciate that you/your company does follow ups to purchases after a year. I think that is great. That being said, since ordering the tire cables/chains, it has not snowed enough to use them! I have saved this email and promise to review them once we actually get to use them. Thanks again!!
by:
The tire chains, recovery strap, and receiver hitch tow eye all seem to be as represented on line before placing my order. September in NC so no opportunity to evaluate tire chains in service. All the above purchased to provide a little more abilities to extract myself from possible bad road conditions latter this year in mountains MT, WY, etc.

Really pleased with service and info from etrailer. Top shelf!

Etreailer is always great to work with- fast, accurate and dependable!
The chains themselves are also great. Pretty easy to put on after reading through the instructions. I especially like placing them on the tire and then rolling forward just enough to run underneath the tire as opposed to having to fully drive on.
The cam tighteners work great. I already have rubber chain tensioners which are recommended.
by:
I am using 2 pairs of these on a 4wd Dodge Dakota. They are heavy, but relatively easy to fit. Note that you DO have to drive onto them.
The cam tighteners are very effective. I don't think that any additional tensioners are necessary. Traction is certainly improved in snow and ice, but I would be very reluctant to drive any distance on a dry road with them on - I don't think they are especially suitable for highway driving.
I removed a few links with an angle grinder, so now the loose chain won't flap.
by:
Perfect fit for my 285/60 r20's. High quality chains along with the rubber tensioners. Very nice setup. The "cam tensioners" built into the chains make the install quite easy. Ashley did a great job helping me out over the phone with this purchase. Make sure you double check with a customer rep. about the proper size. You don't want to have to return these as they are REALLY heavy.
by:
While I haven't used them yet, using etrailer to find the right size was WAY easier than any other website I used. The price was competitive, the order status updates were quick, and the shipping was fast enough. I'll use them again.
by:
Quick shipping and everything came correctly. Everything was labeled accurately and the installation videos on the website are super helpful. I would definitely buy from etrailer.com again!
by:
I am very happy with these tire chains. The cam tighteners keep the chains from hitting my mud flaps while driving.
My buying experience with etrailer.com was perfect.
by:
When I first opened the bag I thought there was an error. They looked like they belonged on a semi truck they were so heavy duty.
I tried them on my 2015 Toyota Tundra and they were a perfect fit.

Thanks Etrailer

I purchased several products for a truck my 1st wife was picking up from me. Everything worked fine. She is pleased and so am I. My favorite item was the back-up camera. She tells me that has prevented damage more than once. Customer service was awesome. I will buy again. Thanks.
by:
This was a very ez order to place. I was kept informed of my shipment and it arrivied on time. Excellent service. I would not hesitate to order from etrailer again.
by:
Item is exactly what the hubby thought it would be. Great price, ASTONISHINGLY fast shipping (like within a few hours fast), and great delivery time. Kinda a big cardboard box for a pair of chains but thats ok. Chains come in a burlap? Canvas? bag. Hopefully these are the ones that fit the truck, I guess we will see when we go up to the mountains.
by:
EXCELLENT is based on appearance since you asked for a review almost before I had them out of the packaging.
They are snow chains for heavy weather. Haven't needed them yet but they look good and strong and came in a very short time from order to getting to the door.

Have used etrailer many times and they have never failed to deliver a great product in timely fashion.
by:
Always a pleasure to do business with the people at e trailer, correct part and quick shipping keeps my customers happy.
by:
I have Cooper Discovery STT Pro's in a 37x12.5x17 size and finding chains has been difficult.
I had purchased a set from another local retailer but had to return as they did not fit.
Called etrailer and Lisa assured me on fit and even called the manufacturer to verify.
Tried them on the Jeep last night and the chains fit perfect.
etrailer service and support was great as usual.
by:
Snow chains are good quality price was better than anywhere else I could find and service was great would buy again great experience
by:
Have not used the chains yet but come in a similar bag as the commercial chains and are built the same way as truck chains are but a bit smaller. Chains also come with cam locking tool which is a plus.
Plan on using them going up to the Sierra an don’t want to get turned back around not having any in possession.
by:
I found this product very beefy compared to the other products.
I have put them on and very simple to do.
fortunately, I have not had to actually use them for the snow.
I have a 4wd truck..
Thank you for a great description, exactly what was described.

These chains work very well, so well that I wanted another set. I live in NC and though they're not needed but like once a year, they're awesome to have. They prevent me from being forced to stay at home like everyone else. I was literally the only one in my subdivision who was out and about last years crippling 4-ish inches of snow, that later froze over and stayed around for a little while. They work great until the road starts poking through the ice/snow but obviously they're not meant for pavement contact.
by:
The chains fit great - only problem is that it has not snowed since I purchased them. I am glad I got them ahead of time for when it does snow.

Worth buying online and the price is far better than the local tractor supply store

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for Michelin XZL 395/85R20 Tires
For a set of twist link tire chains confirmed to fit your tire size of 395/85R20 the PeWag Chains part # PWH3271SC that you referenced are a confirmed fit and would work well. If you are planning on going off-road I would recommend the Mud Service chains part # PWE4486S which have thicker chains for more traction.
