Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if they might affect your ABS/EPS functionality, consult your owner's manual.

The Brenta-C 4x4 chains are great winter-weather chains. If you live in an area where you're likely to get periodic snow and ice, these pewag chains are perfect because they're durable and easy to mount. If you're more likely to see seriously icy conditions, you may want a chain with V-bar links that can really bite into the ice to give you maximum traction.

These chains are among the easiest and fastest to install because they have built-in tensioners that you can just pull taut to adjust the fit. These tensioners allow the chains to fit your tires, no matter the profile or wear pattern. And because the tensioners are built-in, you never have to worry about losing them like you might with other chains on the market.

Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on passenger vehicles with restricted wheel-well clearance. Most newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large aftermarket tires - will require Class S chains. If you're unsure about the class of your vehicle, consult your vehicle's owner's manual.

SAE Class S Clearance Diagram

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. Even low-profile chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Snow Chains

Installing these chains is incredibly simple.

Lay chains on the ground to get all the tangles out

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.

Connect the ends of the chain

2. Slide the chain behind the tire and connect the ends of the black cable, which will sit behind the tire.

Connect the hook and link in front of the tire

3. Around front, connect the red hook to the red link at the top of the tire.

Feed tensioning chain through clip

4. At the bottom of the tire, feed the red tensioning chain through the red clip and tug it until it's tight. Then stretch the hook across the tire. The hook should face away from your tire so your wheel won't get scratched.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Video Transcript for Pewag Brenta-C 4X4 Snow Tire Chains Review

What's going on everybody. Adam here with etrailer. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Pewag Brenta-C, 4x4 Snow Tyre Chains. With the chains we are going to get square links all the way around. They are going to be made of a titanium alloy steel so they're going to be extra strong. So they should last you through a couple of different seasons.

So, we are going to have a diagonal pattern here, which is nice. I like them just because on the vehicle we're using now, it has front wheel drive so when we're turning and stuff, these little links that go in between the two different diamonds that we get are going to be great for turning, stopping and starting as well. These do come in a pair of two. So if you just plan on putting it on the front, all you need to do is just grab one of these. Just put your tyre size in our fit guide on the website, just to make sure they're going to fit.But it does come at a pretty hefty, little carrying case.

I like it just because some of the canvas bags that you get over time, they rip and stuff like that. This has plenty of space to be able to put both of our chains in there. A lot of room, really easy, and these are lots easier to install and store away than ladder inaudible 00:01:17 chain. So, I highly recommend it. Just, especially for our low wheel well clearance that we have.

We don't have a lot. These aren't S-Class compatible, but they really do sit relatively closer to the tyre than some of the other ladder pattern style chains. It all just depends on the link size. Another thing I really like about this is we don't have to worry about any rubber tensioners. A lot of the times we put these things on and we have to buy a rubber tensioner separately.

I don't really like buying something separately. Just grab something that is going to be easy to install and comes with everything this one does. And the nice thing about the tensioner it's connected. We don't have to worry about losing it. I lose everything. So this is going to be a lot easier to just keep in the bag. In the back of my vehicle. Everything's all connected and ready to go. Everything around the rim too, is coated. So with that titanium alloy steel, that is an extremely strong alloy metal. Extremely strong. So it will possibly mess up the rims, but they coded them. So we don't have to worry about that. Everything around there is coded. As you can see here, and the rubber tensioner it's rubber. So it's not going to do any damage there. Other than that, it's extremely easy installation process. So let's just go ahead and show you guys how. First things first, lay out your chains. Make sure there's no tangles, kinks in your links or anything like that. And then, we're going to take the back portion here and slide it back behind our tyre. The goal is to get it on the other end. I want to make sure we get as much of that stuff over here as possible. Make sure it doesn't get tangled up back there. So then, we'll take both of our size. We're going to have two little hooks on there. They're going to, kind of just link together. Like so, I'm going to show you down here just because we don't have a whole lot of wheel well clearance. So you're going to go in the wheel well up, in behind the tyre and make that connection that is showed here. And while we're back here, grab all your chains, kind of drape them up and over. Now we're going to go ahead and make the connection up front. We're going to have a little red hook and a red link. That's a tome. So just connect those up top like that and just make sure that cables tucked behind the tyre. Now that it's nice and even try to get that red portion to be right centered on top of the wheel here. Now we'll take our little tensioner here. I like this tensioner just because it's coated. So it's not going to damage the rim or anything. It's also going to be a lot easier on your hands. So we'll fit it in that little piece there. Give it a good tug. Maybe one more. That's pretty tight. Okay, so we're going to take the little red hook right here. We're going to kind of go through that. And then, once it gets through there, we're going to try to go across wherever our little red hook is here and make our connection just like that. We're not done yet. We're done with the installation process, but we do want you to roll over it a couple times, come back out. Make sure it's still nice and tight and it's so we're ready to hit the road. And that's pretty much it for a look at the Pewag Brenta-C, 4x4 Snow Tyre Chain..

as advertised! I am disabled and being cold is not an option for me. after watching a video on youtube and reading the instructions ( pictures included) i installed these chains in 4 mins BOTH SIDES.
first time iv been off the ranch in 6 days! I have a 2007 kia sportage with goodrich 215/70/R16 allterrain tires and couldnt get traction because of the snow over ice condictions on steep hills.
no problem now! couldnt believe how easy they r to install and they never slipped once!! I would also recomend these for seniors and younger drivers ( they r that easy to install)!

Finally found the time to do a dry fit. The chains appear to fit well. These chains are for a 3/4 ton diesel truck. I'm a little concerned about some of the perimeter chain links on the outside face of the chain installation. These are used to set the final tension of the chain. There are several that are not welded. Not sure how strong the steel is for those links, but am concerned that under load, the links could open up in some situations releasing the tensioning. Must not be a problem due to other good reviews, but I will have to keep an eye on those links if I ever put those chains into service.

work perfectly as expected. great produ ct!!!

by:

One thing to remember, when putting on or off the chains make sure the free red chain with the bungee and hook at its end is clear. Ideally the whole thing should face you. Do not yank the chain quickly either putting it on or off. If you do that red chain may flip up and the bungee hook around a brake line. If it does you will need to go under the vehicle to unhook it.

Once you figure your way around that mistake, they go on/off as you might expect.
