V-Bar Icebreakers
The V-shaped studs (also known as icebreakers, spikes, or cleats) that are built into these twist-link tire chains bite into ice, providing superior grip for a safer ride on ice-covered roads.
Installation
1. Drape the chain over the tire, making sure that the V-bars are facing out.
2. Drive forward about 1/4 of a tire revolution. (You can also lay the chain out and then drive onto it.)
3. Fasten the ends of the chain together.
4. Use the cam tensioning devices that are built into the side chain to tighten. Do this by inserting the flat end of the included wrench into the slot on each cam and twisting it.
5. Drive forward a bit and tighten the chain as needed.
You can use rubber or chain adjusters (sold separately) to increase the tension on the chains for a tighter fit.

Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Ford Explorer, we will be taking a look at, and showing you how to install, tightened chain snow tire chains, with cams for wide-base tires, part number TC-3810-CAM. Keep in mind we are installing these on tire size 255-50-R20.These V-bar tire chains with studded twist links form cross-chains for excellent traction in deep snow and superior grip on ice. The ladder pattern on these chains assists with effective starts and stops, and are made of a low-carbon steel construction for strength and durability. These tire chains do have a 30-mile-per-hour limit, and come in a quantity of two.The built-in cam tighteners make for a quick and easy installation. We'll show you how to do that now.Now that we have our chains laid out, we're gonna check for any kinks or breaks in the chains, and we're gonna make sure our V-bars are facing up, and our cams are loose. Now we're gonna place our tire chains on our tire. Now that we've placed our tire chain on our tire, we're gonna check to make sure it's sitting evenly on the inside and the outside of the tire. Again I'd like to mention you want to make sure that the V-bar is facing out, away from the tire. Now what we want to do first is on the inside of the tire, you want to attach the hook to one of the links.
Make sure you don't attach too many, so that you can adjust the outside. Now that we have the back connected, I'm gonna take the front. You're gonna take the cam lever, you're gonna place it inside the link. You want to make sure that your link is all the way down at the bottom. Turn your cam lever back, and attach it to the extra link. Now we want to take our provided cam tool, and tighten our cams. You're just gonna to around the tire. Now we'll drive forward a couple of feet, get out, and check the tension. That will do it for part number TC-3810-CAM on our 2017 Ford Explorer..
