1. Count the lug holes
Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).
Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug
2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"
2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

Hi everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look together at this Triangle ST 235 85R 16 load range G, heavy duty radial tire with 16 inch black steel dual wheel. This special trailer tire or ST Tire has sturdy sidewalls so that it can handle heavy loads. It is created specifically for trailers and not intended for use on other vehicles. As you know, radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway.
This radial tire is constructed with all steel belts to enhance durability and extend tread life. The computer generated tread design and premium rubber compound materials, gonna give you superior traction in wet or dry conditions. So as I stated just a moment ago, and as we have stamped in our tire, this is an ST 235 85 R16. The section width of this tire is 9.25 inches and the outer diameter is 30 and 7/8 inches. This is a load range G, meaning it has a 14 ply rating.
The maximum load single is 4,400 pounds at 110 PSI. The maximum load dual is 3,860 pounds at 110 PSI. And this has a speed rating of L, indicating a maximum speed of 75 miles per hour. Now this heavy duty black steel wheel with 1, 2, 3, 4 hand holes is designed to be used in dual wheel setups. Now this wheel does have a high offset, so it allows for the wheel to be used as either an inner wheel as we have in this orientation or an outer wheel.
In this orientation, on your dual wheel setup, the offset is either a positive or negative 5.35 inches. And this steel wheel is sturdy, it's corrosion resistant. It features a black powder coat finish over an e-coat primer. And this is a hub piloted wheel, which means it will center on the hub of the axle, not on the lugs. The pilot hole diameter is 4.77 inches.
It does require the use of flange nuts for installation, we do sell them separately here at etrailer.com. And this does use a wheel lug, a wheel lug size of 5/8 of an inch by 18 flange nut. This does include a metal valve stem that's already installed in the wheel and the diameter of this wheel measuring bead seat to bead seat is 16 inches and the width of the wheel, again, measuring bead seat to bead seat is six inches. The wheel has a capacity of 3,860 pounds. The bolt pattern is eight on six and a half inches. And in case you don't know, the first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes, and the second number is the diameter in inches of the circle on which the bolt holes sit. So to determine the bolt circle diameter on wheels with an even number of bolt holes as we have here, you're simply going to measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the bolt hole directly across from it.
