1. Count the lug holes
Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).
Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug
2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"
2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

Hello, everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today I'm going to take a look at this Goodyear Endurance ST235/80R16 radial trailer tire in a Load Range E, and it's mounted on the 16-inch silver modular steel trailer wheel with the 8 on 6-1/2-inch bolt pattern. Now, this tire wheel assembly is ideal for RV stock trailers, utility trailers, and even campers. The wheel is a steel wheel, has a modular design, and when we say modular design, that's the one that has the round holes all the way around the wheel. It's very sturdy and corrosion-resistant. And on the wheel, they do use a three-step finishing process, which will include first a phosphate zinc bath, then an ECO primer, and then a silver powder coat finish on the wheel.
A few dimensions on the wheel itself, the diameter on the wheel, it's going to measure 16 inches, the width on just the wheel itself is 6 inches wide. Now, this wheel does have a bolt pattern of 8 on 6-1/2-inch bolt pattern. And to measure that bolt pattern on a wheel, that's an even number of lugs, like in this case eight. It's pretty easy because if you notice the lug holes are directly across from each other, so just pick one of the holes. Let's say this one, measure from the center of this hole, directly across to the center of the hole right across from it.
On this one, it'll measure 6-1/2 inches. So that's going to tell you this is an eight-lug, 6-1/2-inch bolt pattern. It does use a wheel lug size of 1/2-inch by 20 or 9/16 by 18. And the weight capacity on just the wheel is 4,080 pounds. If you notice, it does not include a center cap.
If you do want a center cap, we do sell those separately on the website. You do want to make sure get a center cap that'll have the same diameter as this pilot hole because when you install it, the cap will go through that hole. The diameter on this pilot hole is 4.88 inches. Now, the tire that's mounted on this is a Goodyear Endurance radial tire. It is constructed with double steel belts, triple polyester cords for a nice, long life.
And the Goodyear trailer tire is made in the USA. It is great for highway use. They do use a nylon tread-firming belt overlay to help prevent tread separation. And it has an optimized tread depth and a decoupling groove designed to help the tire remain cool while you're towing heavy loads. And they do also use Durawall technology, helps resist sidewall cuts and punctures, has a scuff guard on it to help provide additional sidewall protection. This is a ST tire, which stands for a special trailer tire. It'll design and couple the strength of a bias tire with the durability and stability of a radial tire. But it is created specifically for trailers, it's not intended for use on other vehicles. Now, this tire wheel assembly does meet the DOT, Department of Transportation, specifications. Now, the tire size, which will be stamped on the sidewall. Right here, you'll see, see where it's showing, right down here. ST for special trailer, 235/80R16, R means that it is a radial tire. Section width, 9.3 inches. Overall diameter from the bottom to the top when it's inflated is 30.8 inches. And this is a Load Range E, which means it's a 10-ply rated at tire. Does have a maximum load capacity of 3,420 pounds at 80 psi. And the last thing I do want to mention is it does come with a speed rating, and they do stamp that on the tire, but it is a letter designation. And where you'll find that is right here. Down by the wheel, you'll see the tire size listed again, right after it, you'll see two numbers for the load index, and then they stamp a letter N. Speed rating N will mean this has an 87-mile per hour speed rating. But that's going to do it for a look at this Goodyear Endurance ST235/80R16 radial trailer tire in a Load Range E, mounted on this 16-inch silver modular steel trailer wheel.

Great Spare replacement!
These are the same tires I have on my TT. The stock spare was a china bomb. I feel much better knowing If I am a long distance from home, I can depend on my spare instead of getting to the next exit. Tire Blowouts can cause a lot of damage just not worth the risk to me.

I am one that always reads the lowest rated reviews on a company whenever I order anything online - I guess I think the lowest reviews give a truer report of what I could expect - upon reading the negative reviews from past customers I was reluctant to order but had. Everything with the wheels looked good. However, I did have to take them and have them balanced. I would have liked it if balancing was offered as an option when purchasing the wheels.
I realize that many people do not balance their trailer tires. But I like my trailers to ride smooth at highway speeds. Single axle trailers are affected more than multiple axle trailers by out of balance wheels.
I am very pleased with this purchase. Time will tell how these tires will perform, but I am very optimistic.
