Older incandescent lights can fade fast and drain more power than they should. This Peterson Piranha light swaps those fragile bulbs for solid-state LEDs that shine cleaner and last longer. With five diodes behind a red lens, it gives off bright, even light while only drawing 0.14 amps at 12V. No filaments to snap, no bulbs to replace—just dependable visibility every time you flip the switch.
Rough roads can shake weaker lights apart, but this one uses durable surface-mounted diode (SMD) technology. The circuit board design resists shock and vibration while keeping heat under control, so the light stays strong and consistent mile after mile. That thinner build also gives it a clean, modern look that fits neatly wherever you mount it.
Seeing and being seen from every angle matters, especially at night or in traffic. Thanks to its PC rating, this light throws a 180-degree beam—90 degrees to either side of centerline—so it can act as both a clearance light and a side marker when installed properly. That wide spread helps other drivers spot your trailer from the front or sides, improving safety in any lighting condition.
Mounting is straightforward with the recessed setup. It fits into a 2-1/2" round opening and uses a grommet (sold separately) for a tight seal against the surface. The industry-standard 2-prong plug (sold separately) connects easily to most 12V DC systems. Once it’s in place, it sits flush for a tidy finish that won’t snag or catch on anything around it.

Today, we're taking a look at the Peterson Piranha LED trailer clearance and side marker light. This being an LED light, it's gonna last longer than your typical incandescent bulb, and it's also going to act as our clearance light and our side marker light, since it's PC-rated. It will be able to be seen in that 180 degree range or 90 degrees off the center line. This is a nice looking mount. We'll have our five diodes installed there. On the back, it has a plug or a port to allow our two-prong plug to get pushed in giving us our wiring connection. The two-prong plug is available separately.
You can find these here at Etrailer.com. Two plugs in place.Turn my light on. Power it up and as you can see, we'll have one, two, three, four and five diodes there to give us a nice bright light.Pretty bright for our clearance lights. Definitely will be seen when we're out on the road. Those are gonna be white LEDs underneath a red lens and again, nice thing about LEDs is that these are gonna be much efficient. Longer lasting than your incandescent bulb.
Uses less energy, so we'll have less power draw for our light. It's compatible with 12 volt DC systems.DOT compliant. Again, PC rated and made in the USA.The light has a two and a half inch diameter and it's about an inch and 3/16 deep. Going from the front of the light to the back of those terminals there. We'll have those five diodes and our power draw at 12 volts is 0.14 amps. So, very low amp draw. And, this does have a 10 year limited warranty from Peterson for those diodes.
We can also pick up a grommet to go with our light. If we want to mount it that way. Just pops in there. Gives a little road shock protection for our light and just kind of cleans it up. Makes it look fancy.
This grommet is available separately here at Etrailer.com. The part number for that is 142-18.You see it has a hole in back to allow our wiring to go through. If you choose to use a grommet, that works for the three inch diameter hole. And, that's gonna do it for our look at the Peterson Piranha LED trailer clearance and side marker light.
