If you’ve been running older incandescent lights, this LED setup is a big upgrade. The Optronics LED trailer clearance and side marker light uses six diodes to deliver bright, clean illumination while drawing only 0.153 amps at 12.8V. LEDs last about 50 times longer than standard bulbs and don’t have fragile filaments to burn out. That means better visibility, less power draw, and no more hassle with replacements.
Visibility from multiple angles is key for safer towing, especially at night. This light is PC-rated, which means it gives you 180 degrees of coverage—90 degrees to either side of the centerline. When installed correctly, it works as both a clearance and side marker light so others can see your trailer from the front, side, or rear. That wide beam pattern helps improve awareness in traffic or on dark roads.
Moisture, dirt, and corrosion can quickly wear down lesser lights. This one’s built with a chrome-plated housing that resists corrosion while keeping its shine over time. The amber lens protects the white LEDs inside for consistent color and brightness. It’s a solid choice for anyone who wants a dependable light that also looks good on their setup.
Getting the light on your trailer is straightforward thanks to its surface-mount design. It measures 4-13/16" long by 2-1/8" tall by 1-3/8" deep with mounting holes spaced 3-7/8" apart (center to center). The two-wire setup—one power lead and one ground—makes wiring simple without extra adapters or brackets. Once it’s mounted, you’re ready to go with DOT-compliant lighting that’s made to last.

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number MCL81AB, this is the Optronics chrome plated LED trailer clearance and side marker light. It's going to have a 6 diode design and it's going to be amber in color. The rectangular light is going to function as your clearance and side marker light. It is PC rated, so its going to function as both a clearance and side marker when mounted at a 45 degree angle. It's going to feature a weather and corrosion resistant design. It's got a really nice chrome housing to it. It's going to stand up really well against rust and corrosion and it really enhances the look as well.
The lens on this unit is replaceable, so it does feature a replaceable lens. Again, 6 LED's. It's designed to be a surface mount installation. If you take a measurement of the distance that we have between our mount holes going across the length of the light. That's going to give us a measurement, looks to be about 3 7/8 of an inch going that direction.
If we measure going this direction, that's going to give us a measurement of 13/16 of an inch center on center. It's going to come with that nice cushion mounting pad that way you can get a nice secure mount. It's got the slot right there that's going to allow the power and ground wires to come through. And that's also got the pre-cut holes in it so it doesn't interfere in any way and it's already lined up with the mounting holes here on the back side of the light. So you're going to have the 2 wire design, you're going to have your white wire which is going to be for your ground, you're going to have your black wire which is going to be for power. The overall length measuring from edge to edge, it's going to give us a measurement of about 4 3/4 of an inch. Going this direction, we're looking at about 2 1/8 of an inch.
And the thickness, or the depth, is going to give us a measurement pretty close to 1 3/8 of an inch. Now this light is going to draw 0.153 amps at 12.8 volts. And I'd like to go ahead and hook it up to our external power source, that way you can see what it looks like lit up with power running to it. So let me make our connections . You can see here it really does send out a nice consistent signal. The LED systems are going to be great replacements for incandescent lights.
They burn brighter, they're much more energy efficient, and they're going to last longer. You don't have to worry about brittle filaments and you don't have to worry about replacing the bulbs. Really like these nice bright LED lights that replaced the old ones we had on our horse trailer. So easy to see in day light too, we don't have to walk back from truck to verify. They were a little pricey but now think they were worth it.
