Time and miles catch up with every trailer. When you get corrosion or damage at the hub you want a replacement that matches your spindle. This galvanized idler hub fits 6,000-lb #42 spindles used with threaded Vortex setups. Bearings sold separately.
When a hub starts showing rust or damaged threads, assuming that a replacement will work just because you can force it on can turn a simple job into a bigger problem. This hub is built specifically for 6,000-lb axles with #42 spindles that originally used a threaded Vortex oil bath hub. Standard hubs will not fit that spindle correctly. The threaded pilot holes give you a controlled way to remove the old hub and install the replacement without modifying the axle.
At the wheel side, the specs are just as exact. A 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern with 1/2"-20 hardware and 2-1/2" stud length supports thick wheel mounting pads or over-the-hub brake rotors while maintaining proper thread engagement and consistent torque. Inner and outer races are already installed, allowing you to proceed directly to bearing installation. Bearings, grease seal, and grease cap are sold separately.
All trailers take a beating. Road spray, heat cycles, loaded miles, and long stretches of storage wear on every exposed surface. Add repeated launches, wet storage, or seasonal road salt, and that wear accelerates fast. Painted steel eventually gives way under those conditions.
This hub uses galvanized steel to resist corrosion where it matters most, helping protect critical surfaces and maintain proper fit over time. The finish reduces corrosion-related wear that can compromise fit and bearing alignment.
The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.
On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)
To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)
Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer. Let's take a quick look at this DeeMaxx galvanized trailer idler hub for your 6,000 pound trailer axle. Now if you're looking for a solid long lasting replacement for your Dexter Vortex hub, this marine gray trailer hub's gonna be a great option for you to consider. This is built from galvanized steel, which is gonna make it highly resistant to rust and corrosion. So because of that, this is gonna be great for your boat or snowmobile trailers that see a lot of water and harsh conditions. So this is designed for your 6,000 pound trailer axles with the number 42 spindle.
And as you can see, this does use the six on 5 1/2 inch bolt pattern. Each hub is going to be able to support up to 3,000 pounds. So if you have one of these hubs on either side, that's where you're gonna get your 6,000 pound trailer axle capacity. The wheel bolts measure 1/2 in diameter, and they're going to be 2 1/2 inches long. And with that measurement, the studs are going to be extra long.
So they're gonna be able to handle setups like over the hub brake rotors or custom wheels with thicker mounting faces. So that's gonna you more flexibility in how you build or upgrade your trailer. Now this hub does come with the races already pressed in. They're already pre-installed, so that's gonna save you a step during installation. But the bearings and the grease, steel and the cap are all sold separately rather.
So on your screen I'm including the numbers of the bearings and the seal that you're going to need. We do have all of those here at etrailer. And you can find them listed under the related products tab on this product page. If you happen to have any other questions, whether it's about this or anything else that we carry here at etrailer, don't hesitate to reach out to us. We wanna make sure that you're getting exactly what you need.
Well, again, my name's Andy, thank you for joining me.
