Today were going to take a quick look at the Bulldog Collar Lock Coupler with pin part number bd028444. Now Bulldog covers this coupler with a limited five year warranty. It has a gross trailer weight capacity of 12,500 pounds. Well go over a quick measurement with you. The overall length of the coupler is about 16 and half inches. This is a weld on coupler and while you weld it to the tongue of the trailer along the edges of the coupler.
Its built to be used with three inch wide tongue trailers. Well take an inside width measurement here and we get our three inches. The bulldog latch system is a little bit different. Theres a hinge jaw here that needs to open in order to release the ball or fit a ball in when coupling up. To do this youll slide the collar back and the spring loaded jaw will open up.
To slide our collar back far enough we need to remove this pin. Once we remove the pin we can take our collar and slide it back and the jaw will open. The jaw has a stop here that will hold the collar back into place while you hookup or unhook your trailer. Once you get the coupler fitted over the ball take some tension off the collar, push in the hinge jaw and let the collar slide forward. At this point the ball would be locked into place.
Now well show you how it works with an actual two and five sixteenth trailer ball. Slide our collar back and the jaw pops open. Well fit our ball into place, close the jaw and let the collar slide forward over it. Now our ball is completely captive and itll allow smooth rotation to keep the trailer tracking nicely behind the vehicle. Again to remove it slide the collar back, the jaw pops open and the ball is free.
Once you have everything connected to your trailer ball slide the pin back into place and fit the clip over it. Now the pin is also attached to the coupler via chain so that you dont lose it. Thats it for a quick look at the Bulldog Collar Lock Coupler with pin part number bd028444.
