How Does the Bulldog Collar-Lok Coupler w/ Pin, part # BD028444, Mount to the Trailer Frame
Updated 10/01/2010 | Published 09/29/2010 >
Question:
If I understand correctly, the coupler fits over 3 inch rectangle tube. However, I see the coupler has an indentation on each side that appears to prevent the tube from going further in the coupler. Does the rectangle tube fit into the coupler just short of the indentations or is the coupler meant to drive on and over these indentations? Thanks

Yes, this Bulldog Collar-Lok Coupler w/ Pin - 2-5/16 inch Ball - 3 inch Channel Tongue - 12,500 lbs, part # BD028444, is designed to fit onto a 3 inch rectangular trailer frame. The slight indentations you see on either side of the coupler most likely are the result of the stamping process to create the curve in the coupler that begins right after the indentations.
You will want to mount this coupler in as far onto the frame as you can without causing damage to the coupler. If the indentations prevent you from being able to mount it all the way onto the frame some slight coercion of the coupler may be necessary. However, if there is no way it will slide all the way onto the frame it should be fine to weld it up as far in as you can get it without causing damage.
The coupler should be welded on all edges that will be touching the frame of the trailer to ensure a secure attachment. All welding should be done by an AWS certified welder.
