Perfect for Boat Trailers

If you tow a boat trailer, live in a coastal area, or experience a lot of snow, slush, and salt on the roads, you know how corrosive salt can be. Because disc brakes last longer than drum brakes, you should consider how things like rust might impact your trailer over time.

The Maxx coating on these brake kits offers great corrosion protection, even with frequent use in freshwater and saltwater. DeeMaxx brakes are coated with a proprietary zinc-flake coating to provide a level of rust and corrosion resistance thats comparable to traditional Dacromet. You can expose these brakes up to 1,000 hours of salt spray before noticing signs of rust. The strength of Maxx coating is one reason why DeeMaxx disc brakes are preferred by law enforcement agencies such as Texas State Patrol, U.S. Border Patrol, and U.S. Coast Guard.

The aerated design allows any water and moisture to escape and evaporate from the rotor, further reducing the risk of moisture causing rust and corrosion.

More Heat Dissipation

When brakes retain heat, they are more likely to experience brake fade, or loss of braking power. DeeMaxx addresses this problem by providing more ventilation near the center of the hub. Combining these with the conventional vented rotor design, this allows the brakes to disperse heat faster. DeeMaxx brakes will continue to offer excellent performance throughout their long life because they work to reduce burn spots on the rotors.

Get a Safer, More Comfortable Ride

Say goodbye to the days of your truck being pushed and pulled by your trailer. Disc brakes provide a safer, more comfortable ride than drum brakes. They offer shorter stopping distances and deliver consistent braking - even at highway speeds. So, you won't have to worry about things crashing around in your trailer or camper next time you reach unexpected traffic on the highway or debate if you can actually stop before that yellow light turns red.

Save Time and Money

More and more people are switching their trailers over to disc brakes. Not only do disc brakes provide more controlled braking than drum brakes, but they also save you money by having fewer parts to maintain.

Unlike drum brakes, which have springs, magnets, and shoes that may need to be continually adjusted or replaced, disc brakes are virtually maintenance-free. There are no springs, cables, or other little components that you'll need to worry about failing.

The side-support design of the caliper mounting bracket puts all of the weight on the mounting bracket instead of on the bolts. This reduces premature wear and extends the life of the bolts, further ensuring optimal performance.

DeeMaxx provides simple instructions laser etched on the back of the calipers. These instructions offer guidance for installing the calipers and bleeding the brakes.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

If you want to remount your existing wheels after installing these brakes, you'll need a kit that offers the same bolt pattern. To determine the bolt pattern, count the number of bolt holes (or lug nuts) on your trailer's wheel. This will give you the first number in the pattern. To find the second number, just measure the distance between a bolt hole and the bolt hole across from it.

diagram showing how to measure even bolt pattern

For example on wheels with an even number of bolt holes: 6 on 5-1/2" means 6 bolt holes with 5-1/2" from the center of 1 hole to the center of the hole across from it.

diagram showing how to measure odd bolt pattern

And with an odd number of bolt holes: 5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" from the center of 1 hole to the farthest edge of one of the 2 farthest bolt holes.

All-in-one Brake Replacement

DeeMaxxs integral brake kits combine the brake hub and rotor into a single cast iron piece. Unlike a slip-on assembly, the one-piece setup makes installation easier since the hub and the rotor are combined. However, this can lead to some extra costs when replacing parts. If either the hub or the rotor needs to be replaced further down the road, the entire piece will be replaced.

Generally, we recommend replacing the brake pads and the rotors at the same time. When you mix and match new parts with used ones, you may save money in the short term, but this has been known to cause problems in the long term, such as uneven stopping power, brake bedding and hot spots. Always confirm that your rotors are in good condition with no rust, corrosion, or grooves before deciding to replace only the brake pad or only the rotor. And always replace parts on both sides of the same axle for balanced braking power.

Video Transcript for Let’s Check Out the DeeMaxx Disc Brake Assembly

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're going to take a quick look at this D-Max Brake Assembly. This is going to allow you to replace one brake for your trailers 7000 pound capacity axle. Our rotor here is 13 inches in diameter, and you can see we have the 8 on 6 and a half inch bolt pattern with the half inch wheel stud diameter on this. So those dimensions are typical for assemblies that work on your 16 inch and larger wheels. These do have the integrated hub and rotor assembly as well as the brake caliper and our caliper mounting brackets here on the back side.

You can see, these are going to have your 5 bolt brake flange configuration, so that you can get it mounted onto your axle pretty easily. We do also have the races pre-installed on the front, the inside, and the outside. We're also going to get the bearings and the seal as well as the cap. If you're needing any of the details on those races, bearings, or seal and cap, those are available, as you can see on the screen there. So, to make sure that this is going to work for you, this is also going to include the lug nuts for your half inch studs there, so you can hold your wheel assembly in place, as well as hardware to get this mounted onto your axle.

This does have a matte coat finish on the hub and rotor as well as the caliper and caliper mounting brackets, and that's going to offer excellent rust and corrosion resistance. It's got a salt spray rating of over 1000 hours, so it is going to be comparable to your tactical matte finish. These are going to be great for your boat trailers or trailers used in coastal areas or on heavily treated roads where there's going to be a lot of contact with salt and other corrosive materials. And you can see these, this does have these drain holes here on the side that's going to allow water to drain more easily. So it's going to be especially great for your boat trailers and that sort of thing.

So, obviously, these brakes are going to be a great option for you, especially with the single option. Definitely going to be a great replacement for a brake assembly on your 7000 pound capacity axle. So if you are looking just to replace a single one, this is going to be a great way to go. Of course, it is always better to replace them in pairs so that both sides are going to be braking equally. And we do have kits available that give you two brake assemblies, so one for each side.

So if you are looking to replace both, I would recommend going with that route. That completes our look for today. Thank you, and I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.

Just traveled 800 miles after installing the disc brakes. Stopping distance is half of what it was. So pleased!

by:

We had a rough start getting the right brakes for our Brinkley Z3100. However after ETrailer realized they made an error on the order they were right on top of it, doing everything they could do to make it right. Their people are great, kind, well informed in their products, and communicate very promptly. E Trailer will be my go to supplier for RV, and Trailer needs.
You will not be disapointed with their customer care!

by:

Excellent customer service. All of my questions were answered. All of parts arrived the very next day. Parts appear to be of high quality.

by:

Easy installation, work so much better than stock drums. Some brake pad noise under lite braking.

by:

Really surprised how quickly parts came. One box looked pretty rough, but all parts appear to be there. Will know more after install and put a few miles on the trailer.

by:

One of the kits was missing all 5 mount bolts, had to run to Hardware store to get replacements. Bolt up is simple & strait forward. Packaging needs to be more substantial as the calpers were floating around in the box & had some scuffing damage.. maybe put some composite straps around boxing so they can be easier to Carry?

by:

The first order I made was incorrect due to my mistake, but Amy took care of it had the correct items sent out with the wrong items returned. Everything was very smooth.

This rating is because of the company, DeeMaxx, not the quality of the parts. As far as I can tell the parts seem to be really good quality. This rating is because I feel that DeeMaxx is dishonest and has no honor or integrity. I bought the kit for the 6000lbs axle. There are actually two caliper brackets that fit this kit. There is an open bracket (DBB-6K-MAXX) which is included in the kit, and there is a closed bracket (DBB-6KC-MAXX). The instruction say to install the bracket so that the caliper will be at the 3 or 9 o'clock position and facing the rear of the camper. The problem with the open bracket is it can only be installed in one location, it cannot be rotated for proper alignment and all five mounting bolts line up. That places the caliper at about the 11:30 position which means it is slightly aft on the right side of the camper and slightly forward on the left side. The position of the caliper really isn't a big deal. The problem is that position puts the caliper, and the brake line, right behind the spring stack. If DeeMaxx would have included brakes lines with a 90° end to miss the springs this placement would have worked. But all of the brake lines are straight which makes it almost impossible to get the brake line threaded into the caliper. You have to bend the brake line 90° to get it installed and then it is against the springs and the threads on the u-bolt. I ended up wrapping the lines in fuel lines and zip tying them in place to protect the lines. I did not like how the lines had to be bent and rubbing the springs and thought there had to be a better way so I did an internet search and found out there was actually another bracket by DeeMaxx that solves the problem and allows the calipers to be mounted as per the instructions, at 3 and 9 position, the closed bracket. I called DeeMaxx and left a message about my problems and they never returned my call. I then reached out to etrailer to see if they would contact DeeMaxx, I even sent numerous pictures of the problem with the brake lines hitting the springs. There was no clearance problems with the caliper and the suspension. DeeMaxx got back to etrailer and said from the pictures there was plenty of room for the caliper, failing to address the brake lines, and said they wouldn't provide the other brackets. They recommended I could run it as it was, move my current bracket and turn it to the 3 or 9 position even if it meant I could not use all five mounting bolts, or I could purchase the other brackets at my own expense. Then I realized, DeeMaxx knows the brackets they include in the kit don't match their instructions and this forces the consumer to purchase $200 more of their products in order to fix the issue instead of including the proper brackets in the kit, very dishonest. I paid the extra money for the DeeMaxx kit over the other brands because I don't mind spending more for better quality. What I do mind is a dishonest company that uses tactics like this to get even more money from the consumer. The DeeMaxx kit was already close to $1000 more that the Hydrastar kit, and now I have to pay $200 more to get it installed properly, and I would bet the Hydrastar kit has the proper bracket included. I ended up ordering the closed brackets and now have the brakes installed as per the DeeMaxx instructions. I will never buy anything else from this company or do business with them again. Very dishonest and underhanded tactics to get more money from the consumer.

I have towed my 16,000lb fifth wheel over 12,000mi since installing the disc brake system. The braking power and control is vastly improved with the disc brakes over the drum brakes. I am certain that I avoided a major accident because of the disc brake system. The kit had everything I needed and the customer service was great.

Have a 2024 Brinkley camper. Barley felt the drum brakes work. Camping in Colorado and the Black Hills was a little stressful with little brake help from the camper. Winter here. I've only took the camper on a test drive (20 miles) with the new disc brakes. They work awesome! All the brake power you need from the camper now.

I ordered the wrong brake kit at first. I needed 9/16" bolts instead of 1/2". Ashley from E-tailer got what I needed coming and gave ups the pickup label right after I called. Thank you Ashley!

As for the brake install. Fairly easy. Not fun, but easy. The hardest part was running and securing the brake lines. And maybe the wiring up the actuator. Instructions were great. Just a little intimidating the first time. Next time will take half the time to do. But I no plains for the next time! Also make sure your brake controller can change to elec. over hdy. Luckily my 2023 F350 did and was easy to change on the screen.

Thank you again Ashley!!

Etrailer to the rescue! Extremely high quality direct replacement for DeeMaxx EOH kit DE66AR offered on this site. Our original got damaged after a bearing failure. I actually cary a spare set of bearings which allowed us at a minimum to limp our RV home and avoid an expensive tow. Now I will replace the damaged parts.

And it looks like you are doing it all with a smile on your face Greg! Glad to hear you were prepared with the extra set of bearings as well. etrailer is lucky to have you as a neighbor (customer)! So where are you headed for the next adventure?

by:

Best upgrade to our 5th wheel. I will do this to every trailer I ever own. The install was straight forward if you have some mechanical knowledge and experience.
