Galvanized Steel

Galvanized steel parts are hot-dipped in zinc after being stamped. This creates a coating that is typically 3 mm to 5 mm thick. This thick, all-around coating allows galvanized steel products to provide years of use without rusting or corroding.

Video Transcript for CE Smith Bolster and Swivel Bracket Assembly for Roller Bunks Review

Today, we're going to take a look at the CE Smith 11 inch long galvanized steel bolster and swivel bracket assembly for roller bunks. It's for a quantity of one. This bolster and swivel bracket assembly will let you mount a roller bunk on your boat trailer. The bracket assembly is typically mounted upright on your boat trailer's cross members, and it allows a mounted roller bunk, which is run from the front of the trailer to the back, to pivot while you're loading a boat. The swivel brackets let you tilt the roller bunk, helps you to fit the boat hull snugly onto the trailer during the loading process. You can see the bolt and lock nut is included that attaches the swivel bracket to the bolster bracket. The swivel bracket end is what will bolt to the roller bunk, and the bolster bracket is what attaches to your trailer frame cross members.

You can see it has two long mounting slots here on the bracket to allow as much as 3-3/4 inch of height adjustment when you're installing it. That bracket does install vertically on the boat trailer's frame using a U bolt. The U bolt is not included, that is sold separately. Basically, when you go to install this, you'll put your U bolt through there and then just adjust it up or down to whatever height you need directly on your boat trailer. If you notice on this side here, it does have a dimpled surface on this bolster bracket, helps prevent the bracket from sliding along the trailer frame after it's installed. So once you find the correct height and bolt it down, those dimples on there will keep it from moving on the trailer frame. This is an 11 gauge galvanized steel, helps resist rust and corrosion.

It is suitable for salt water exposure. This is for a quantity of one bracket assembly. The overall height from the bottom to the top of the swivel bracket is right at 11 inches tall. Now, dimensions on just the bolster bracket, the height on that is going to be 10 inches tall, the width on it right at 2-1/2 inches wide. The mounting slots, there's two of them there, it's going to be a 1/2 inch wide, and the height on them or length of them is going to be right at 3-3/4 inches long.

The swivel bracket itself, the width on it is 1-3/4 inches, the length is 1-1/4, and the overall height of just the swivel bracket, from the bottom of it to the top it 2 inches tall. The mounting hole diameter right here is 7/16 diameter. That should do it for the review on the CE Smith 11 inch long galvanized steel bolster swivel bracket assembly for roller bunks for a quantity of one.

I'm new to boating & trailers, am just a do-it-yourselfer, and found etrailer online. The trailer I am refurbishing for my son, was built in 1974. The main bunks were supported by angle cut 2"x4"s bolted to the trailer frame. They did not swivel, were not adjustable. I replaced these with the CE Smith bolster and swivel bracket assemblies. These arrived very quickly, and were perfect for my application. They are easy to install, just two 1/2" diameter carriage bolts with cut washers & lock washers per bracket assembly, and you're done. These can be adjusted for final set up to cradle your boat. They're very sturdy, and galvanized for corrosion resistance.

Now, I did also replace the original bunks, using 8' pressure treated 2x6"s, that I covered with outdoor/deck carpeting, stapling the carpet to the boards underneath. My mistake, which the picture shows, was putting carpet on one bunk before the holes were drilled & the mounting 1/2" carriage bolts were installed. Rather than removing the carpet & starting over, I just cut the carpet & folded it back where the mounting bolts would go. Once the bolts were in, I just glued the carpet back down with waterproof contact cement. I also chose to put the bunks loosely onto the top of the mounting brackets, after bolting them to the trailer. I used a mechanic's creeper to roll underneath and triple check then mark the drill holes on the bunks, to assure a good alignment for drilling the mounting bolt holes on the bunks, before finally drilling for & mounting the bunk bolts. This worked great, the bunk mounted perfectly to the brackets. The brackets do come with locking nuts on the swivel part, that needs to be tightened down into the final position, to allow the swivel without too much wiggle.

Great product, etrailer/ customer service is the best!

New bunk risers are in as is the new bunk and carpet. The reminder here is to check the bolts securing the bunks. The bunks came loose out at the Colorado river north of Yuma so had to jimmy rig the boat to the trailer on the way home to San Diego. Oh, and it was well over 100 degrees on the way home. No bueno! Everything good to go now.

As usual, etrailer has come through with a quality product and quick
delivery.. worked perfectly..

by:

Heavy duty, easy to install, the best customer service ever! Thank you for the videos and the detailed information. Thanks.

by:

So far so good. The brackets are working fine so far. Haven't put the trailer on the road yet, but the boat requires bunkers to have a curve or bow in them. The middle brackets stand the torsion as well as the weight of the boat. Easy to install as well.

Shipping was quick and well packaged. Etrailer comes through again!

Bought a used trailer that did not match my boat's hull. Ordered this hardware and new 6' bunks, cut off original "fixed" mounts and bunks and installed these adjustable ones. Carefully lifting a 4500# boat and working under it and the trailer and other than some parts hard to reach, job went as planned.
I am happy with the results.
I have always been happy with all my experiences with etrailer.
Thx

Just open package all parts look to be good quality and that they will fit perfect Also the information on parts on your web site were dead on.

by:

Glad I found these. Just the right length. My trailer and boat are very happy.

by:

This is a simple product, but a very good one for boat trailer bunks. It is heavy steel and heavily galvanized. I bought two to replace very old ones which did not have the strengthening bridge across the slot that these have; my old ones separated at that mid-point, from wear and tear and age.

by:

Worked perfectly, good guality, would recommend-fast service as always. The other companies are a bad joke!!!

Great!!!! Makes use of boat much safer&easier.

by:

Good quality except for the hardware. They used zinc plated steel hex bolt and lock-nut. If the brackets are galvanized then the hardware should be stainless steel. May add a little to the price but makes for a better product. I replaced the inferior hardware with 304 Stainless hex bolt and lock-nut

  • Determining Length of Bolster Bracket for New Bunk System on Boat Trailer
To be on the safe size, I recommend going with a 13 inch bracket # CE10002G-4 at the back of the trailer and an 11 inch bracket with # CE10003G at the front. A nice feature on these brackets is that they will each actually have as much as 3-3/4 inches of height adjustment due to their mounting slots, so even if its total height is a bit higher than needed, you can adjust them down. This will allow you to have the perfect height for your new bunk support system. I have attached a short...

  • Adding Bunks to 20 Foot Boat Trailer with Deep V Hull
To add additional bunks on your trailer you'd need to attach them to the crossmembers like what I can see under your boat in your picture. To do that the # CE10003G would be a great option that can attach in that orientation. Looks like there's two crossmembers so a total of 4 brackets would be what you'd need to add an additional two bunks. I attached a review video for these for you to check out as well.
