The D-Spud wasn't a perfect match for my old D-spud. The old one had more of a taper on the small thread end, couldn't screw it in. I was able narrow the diameter on the first 1/4in of the fine threaded shaft. Now I could get the d-spud to catch female threads on the sink side. My boat shower valve is 25 years old, must be a different brand (not a phoenix faucet) . Was able to make it work.
