  If the light you choose is a 2-wire design like the Thinline Opti-Brite LED Interior Strip Light, part # ILL71CB, you will have a White wire and a Black wire. The Black wire would be attached to your 12-Volt power source, and the White wire needs to be grounded to a clean metal surface. To be able to use this light and have it controlled by the dome light you will need to attach the Black wire to the wire between the dome light switch and the dome light.

• Troubleshooting Interior Lights Not Functioning on an Enclosed Trailer
  The interior lights of your trailer would be powered by the 12 volt accessory circuit on the 7-way of your 2004 Chevy 2500. This would be the pin in the 2:00 position. You can use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test that pin to see if it is active. Most likely that circuit hasn't been activated under the hood of your truck, or the fuse/relay for that circuit is blown. Check out the help article that I attached that has a section in it about activating this circuit.

The key difference that it does not have the 45 degree wedge base that angles downward. Besides that they are both rated for interior and exterior use, are both water proof, and will both work with 12v Power systems.
