Video Transcript for Michigan Chrome Logo Emblem 2" Hitch Cover Review

Ellen: Hey everybody, I'm Ellen here at eTrailer.com and we're going to be taking a quick look at the Michigan Metal Chrome Logo Hitch Cover. This gives you a nice way to showoff your love for UM, or the University of Michigan, with this metal hitch cover. It's different than a lot of other ones that you see out there, that are made of plastic, so this should be a much more sturdy and long-lasting option for you.Even the M emblem is also made out of a metal with that chrome plating. Now that is just kind of stuck on there with some adhesive, so some customers have said that they are not a big fan of that, but it should last a pretty long time. It's really strong adhesive, so it should be okay. If you're going to be leaving it on in harsh environments there's a chance that it could fall off after a few years.

That's just something to keep in mind, since it is stuck on there with glue. But I just want to let you know that it isn't riveted to there or anything like that, so if that's a deciding factor for you just something to keep in mind. I don't think that it's going to come off though. They have redesigned this. Before it had the Michigan name across the M, now it's just the big M there, so a little bit different.

I think they've upgraded that adhesive to make sure that it stays on there for a long time.So let's take a little closer look at it and I'll give you some measurements to make sure that this is a good fit for you. It does work with a 2" by 2" hitch, that's going to be your class III hitches and some of your class IIs as well. As far as the face of the hitch cover it's about 5" by about 3-1/2". And the distance from where it would mount to .. Or the closest point of the hitch cover to the hitch pin hole is about 2-3/8", so just shy of 2-1/2".

The reason why I give that is because you want to make sure that this is going to sit pretty close or really right up to the end of your hitch receiver tube so that it doesn't rattle around. That's also why they have this foam gasket there, to kind of take up some of the gap. If yours is really short, so there's a pretty big gap, you could always put some kind of additional foam in there to take up that space. Most hitches out there should probably be within that 2-1/2" range, so should be all right there. It does not come with a hitch pin and clip, that is something you have to pick up on your own. If you have any other hitch mounted accessories you probably have one already, but if not we've got a lot of options here at eTrailer.com, including hitch pin locks as well.As far as anything else with this, having a hitch cover is just always a nice idea to keep any kind of dirt or debris from gathering in that hitch and to make sure that it lasts a long time.

It also helps to reduce any kind of rust buildup. Whenever stuff gets collected in that hitch it can tend to make that corrode a bit faster, so having a hitch cover is a good way to prevent that, make it easier to get any of your aftermarket accessories in there, like a bike rack or cargo carrier. And it also just looks nice, gives your support of University of Michigan. And that's pretty much all there is to it for our quick look. I hope this has been helpful in deciding if this is the right choice for you. We do have a lot of other hitch covers and other hitch mounted accessories here at eTrailer.com, so be sure to check them out. I'm Ellen with eTrailer, thanks for watching.

  • How Long is the Michigan Chrome Logo Emblem 2 inch Hitch Cover
The distance from the back of the hitch cover, where the foam is, to the center of the hitch pin hole is about 2-1/2 inches. If you measured 2 inches, then the hitch cover will fit with about 1/2 an inch to spare. This hitch cover, which fits on a 2 inch hitch, has a black powder coated finish and has a chrome plated emblem which will keep this hitch cover looking nice for a long time. Since this hitch cover doesn't come with a pin and clip, you can use the pin and clip by Draw-Tite, part...

  • Will A Non-Threaded Locking Pin Work With Bike Rack And Hitch Cover?
As a Wolverine fan myself, I must commend your taste in a hitch cover! The Michigan Chrome Logo Emblem 2" Hitch Cover as well as your Saris bike rack will work with a locking pin like the Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock - Stainless Steel Flush Design for 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver, # e98882, you mentioned. However, using a regular pin or a locking pin that isn't threaded will allow movement in your bike rack and hitch which can give you a clanking noise. You may want to consider a threaded...

  • Fit of Michigan Logo Hitch Cover on 2011 Toyota 4Runner
As long as the 4Runner is equipped with a 2 inch receiver, and the top of the receiver has at least 3/4 inch of clearance above it, the Michigan Logo Hitch Cover should work great with your 2011 Toyota 4Runner. To secure the hitch cover into the receiver, you will need either a pin and clip, part # PC3 or a locking hitch pin, part # e98882. If you should decide to go with the locking hitch pin, do yourself a favor and write down the key number and keep it someplace safe. Replacement keys...
