I am probably 1st to review this on etailer.com for a B8.5 2014 Audi S4. Decided to do this after reading confirmed installs on B8 & B8.5 by others on audi forums. The install steps are same as for the B8 A4. Thanks to Tom R.'s review here about taping the top of the long bolts that go over the frame bumper saved a ton of time and aggravation(slide outside bolt and tape its head to plate, slide it onto frame, slide the second bolt and put a piece of long tape in place).

I like to add that by dropping the short bolts from spare wheel area( do the silicon steps 1st) and putting some weight on those round disks you can save more time. I also siliconed from bottom of the car before putting on the hitch. Putting on nuts on short bolts hand tight first helps free up both hands so that hitch is held there by itself and you can take your time installing the nuts on the long bolts.

I've installed everything from beginning to hand tight in 30 minutes. The next 30 minutes were spent on trying to get all bolts to 110lb/ft tight using a torque wrench which was very difficult. Read on other reviews in Audi forums that it helps to drop the mufflers from hangers which gives 2" of free space. I've done the installation by myself on flat ground with no ramps which made it a bit difficult. My other suggestion is to wear some clear goggles or make sure all the debris is out of the plastic valance after removing 3 T25 screws before you start the main job to protect the eyes. Also wear your old shirt that you can toss out.

The install says to cut out the rear valance 3 1/4 x 2.25". I only did the front to back cut but not side to side to take it off completely. I just bent and pushed it back inside the rear valance and it can be screwed back to place if hitch is removed.

Overall very satisfied by the looks and use of Curt hitch. In addition the Thule rack I got(Double track pro) comes with a self-threading pin that eliminates all of the side to side movement on the hitch.

I used it few times with the family when I needed to bring 3 bikes but still have it installed on the car. It works great considering I didnt want a roof or trunk rack and limited in options on the Audi S4 due to muffler system.

This hitch arrived super fast and in great packaging. The folks at etrailer package these themselves, and a great deal of attention is paid to ensuring it arrives safe and sound. It was exactly as described, and installed fairly easily. Their video is a great reference to installing the hitch.

All told, installation time took just shy of an hour and a half, but could've gone quicker had I had access to a lift. I did not opt to drop the exhaust hangers, and honestly, it would've been more trouble than it was worth. All bolts are easily accessed with a torque wrench, EXCEPT the one closest to the exhaust. A did just apply manual pressure to the tailpipes to make room for the socket extension to get onto that one nut for torquing.

This is a nicely welded, well thought out hitch. It fits the bill just fine, and blends fairly well into the car's normal look. The car's filthy in the pics here, but that hitch shines bright!

Hello. I am enclosing a photo of the C11186 Curt trailer hitch now installed on my 2014 Audi S4 for your website. Please remove my license plate number before posting.

In addition, I would update your catalog to include coverage for the S4, S5, S6, and S8 vehicles plus any others that you and Curt are missing from their application guides.

Thank you.

Looks great and stable. I am still waiting for my bike rack (back order) to test it completely. It took 2 hours to install by my local body shop.

Good product. Easy to install. You have to cut out a small piece of plastic facia right in the middle and drill two holes.
The only minus - one star less than perfect - the size of the internal diameter is just a bit too large. I had in the past several etrailer hitches for several small sedans- a Ford, Honda, VW, Audi. This one is the most rattling.
I use it for a ski rack, bicycle rack, and a small trailer. I bought hitch tightener / anti rattle - with it - Very happy.

Bike rack has worked well. We've taken it on several road trips and it's been great for two bikes.

I put this on a 2014 Audi A4 without a lift or jack stands. I just drove the car onto some concrete pavers to get it up about 5 inches off the ground. I was able to install the bike rack with a torque wrench, but if I had to do it again I would have used jack stands and saved myself a lot of time and effort.

2011 Audi A4 2.0T: We plan to use the trailer hitch for towing a single Waverunner. The hitch, receiver, and wiring harness all arrived earlier than expected and were in perfect condition. Virginia Tire & Auto did a great job on the installation. The installation cost was $145 and took approximately 1.5 hrs. I chose to have a professional do the installation, primarily to ensure the wiring harness was installed correctly.

Great high quality looking Curt hitch as promised by etrailer and delivered quickly!! And once on, it looks very much like a factory installed unit!!

But instructions indicate that installing takes approx. 25 minutes (pro) to 50 minutes (novice) - wrong. I consider myself to be very much a hands on guy and no way a novice could install this hitch on an Audi A4 in the suggested time....just saying. The time it took me to install, not counting the fascia trimming, was approx. 1 hour and 15 minutes. **A tip worth noting - tape the carriage bolts to the bolt plates when mounting them on top of the steel bumper frame. This keeps them from falling out of the bolt plates (on top) and allows you to thread the nuts without pushing the bolts out of the holes in the hitch (on bot).

by:

The trailer hitch is actually pretty easy to install. The only tool I really wish I had was a swivel wrench. Other than that, the video explained it all. I barely needed to refer to the instructions.

I have an Audi A4 2012 Quattro Sedan. The only downside was the hitch didn't align very well with the 2 large washers that connect to the spare wheel well. I used a lot a silicon to fill the holes. This issue also required me to cut out more of the plastic bumper than was in the video (improvisation). It doesn't bother me since its basically under the car and not visible. Or maybe I just didn't install it correct? I needed to push it about ~0.5inch closer to the front of the car.

by:

Installed on my son's 2011 Audi A4. Followed the videos/directions for an easy 30 minute job. Apart for some lower fascia trimming (not visible) this was a bolt on affair. Works very well with a bike rack and two mountain bikes.

by:

Well built and rock solid. It looks as good now as when I installed it a year ago, no sign of any rust, etc. Install was pretty straightforward after I watched a couple of videos. Dropping the rear exhaust hanger was very helpful to improve access to bolt on that side (2013 Audi A4 Quattro). Total install time was just over an hour.

Great looking product. Installed as stated, relatively easily even without a lift, no drilling required and shipped quickly too. Highly recommend their products and service! Looks great on the car!

I found out that this hitch fits the B8 and B8.5 audi S4 models from the audizine forums. The hardest part of the install is getting the side mounting flanges up and over the dual exhaust mufflers to get it under the frame rails. But it fits and I am excited to get my bike rack on it!

by:
2010 Audi A4

Good fit, did it all no assistant, no reason to raise the vehicle either.

by:

Always impressed with Curt products. They fit correctly, have good instructions, all bolts and hardware are supplied. etrailer did a good job of getting my hitch shipped quickly.

by:

The installation seems to be quite secure and I like how well tucked away almost all of it is under the fascia. But the installation was made more difficult than it needed to be due to there being different parts than shown in instructions. It was necessary to do the hardest part of the installation twice, since I had guessed wrong on which holes to use on the plates. It was very counterintuitive that you actually have to use one *threaded* hold, and one *unthreaded* hold, even though there are 2 threaded holes. It's also not at all clear that using the unthreaded hole is correct, since the square part of the bolt head has nowhere to recess into. Lifting the whole hitch up and under and threading it over the exhaust and trying to line up the bolts--all of that had to be done twice. It was all much more frustrating than it needed to be. The hitch itself has a nice paint job however it arrived with part of that paint scratched off all the way to bare metal.

by:

Very nice

by:

Seems nice, installation took an house. It was tricky to install because it was hard to reach some areas and you have to take apart more of the plastic housing than the directions say to reach. Also, be sure you have confidence cutting your plastic bumper with a dremel. Advanced DIYers only, not for beginners.

Product was shipped quickly, arrived quickly, and is a very solid product. Welds seem strong and uniform. Would definitely recommend this product and etrailer.com!

  • Hitch Recommendation for a 2012 Audi A4 Avant Wagon
The only hitch I can recommend for your 2012 Audi A4 Avant is the Curt Hitch part # C11195. The # C11186 is only recommended for the sedan models so it wouldn't work for you. A lot of people prefer the look of round tube hitches as they don't stand out as much as the square tube ones.

  • 2 inch Hitch for 2013 Audi Allroad for Carrying Bike Rack

  • Trailer Hitch and Accessories for a 2011 Audi A4 Sedan
We do not have any pictures showing Curt trailer hitch # C11186 installed on an Audi A4. We take pictures when customers leave vehicles here for installations. We have not had that particular vehicle in yet for a hitch installation. But I can tell you that once installed only the receiver part will be visible. The rest of the hitch will be hidden like in the diagram I have included. If you will not be doing any towing with the hitch then I actually recommend Draw-Tite trailer hitch #...

  • Use of Stabilizing Strap on Class I Hitches Installed on 2013 Audi A4 Sedan
The three light-duty Class I hitches offered for your 2013 Audi A4 Sedan are shown on the linked page. Curt hitches are unique in that some of their hitch models like # C11186 do require a stabilizing strap # 18050 whenever used with a non-wheeled load, such as a bike rack or cargo carrier. Some other brands do not have this warranty requirement. This does not indicate any deficiency in the Curt hitch. All three products are virtually identical and all install at the exact same points...

  • Does Trailer Hitch for 2013 Audi A4 Require Fascia Trimming for Installation
Both the Draw-Tite # DT24950 and the Curt # C11186 Class I trailer hitches (which are the only ones offered for your Audi) do require the trimming of some fascia to install on your 2013 Audi A4. You can find the exact cutout dimensions in the linked installation instructions for each. Since this is the case you may be able to tow a small trailer or a small sail boat but you will be limited to only carrying 2 bikes as Class I trailer hitches aren't able to handle the weight that is placed...

  • Comparing Class I Hitch and Hitch Bike Rack to Trunk-Mount Racks for 2013 Audi A4 Sedan
We do offer several light-duty Class I hitches for your 2013 Audi A4 Sedan including the Curt # C11186 which does require you to use a support strap (for retaining your Curt manufacturer's warranty) when using the hitch with non-wheeled loads such as bike or cargo carriers. • Availability of Trailer Hitch for 2014 Audi A4 Allroad
Curt Manufacturing offers a hitch for the 2014 Audi A4 Allroad, part # C11195. The # C11186 you mentioned is for sedan models, and wouldn't fit your vehicle. If you'll be using the hitch as an attachment point for a bike rack or cargo carrier, the Curt hitch warranty requires the use of a stabilizing strap, # 18050 for all non-trailer loads.
