Whether you're hauling construction equipment or you're carrying your ATVs to the mud park, towing heavy-duty loads can be an intense job. You definitely don't want to have to deal with sharp, jolting movement every time your trailer hits a bump. Driving over bumps, potholes, and uneven terrain causes road shock. This can result in a rough ride for you and your cargo. It can even potentially damage your trailer. The Spartan from Gen-Y Hitch is designed to absorb road shock at the connection point to create a safe, smooth, and stable ride. This is thanks to the internal construction of the coupler, which is similar to that of a torsion axle.
Pivot points are built into this gooseneck coupler. This allows for movement between the base of the coupler, which connects to the ball in your truck bed, and the top tube of the coupler, which connects to your trailer. When your vehicle hits a bump, the base of the coupler will move up or down accordingly.
Built into the Spartan are tubes with inner bars that are surrounded by rubber cords. As the coupler's base rises or falls, these inner bars twist inside of the tubes, attempting to follow the base's motion. But the rubber cords prevent the bars from twisting too far. And as each bar turns, these cords compress to absorb the shock. This means that any shock experienced by your truck can be absorbed before it reaches your trailer, and the shock experienced by your trailer won't get transferred to your truck.
This type of shock-absorption system is easy to maintain. Just regularly apply grease to the built-in zerk to keep the components in working condition. No airbags to fill. No small parts to repair or replace. No hassle.
This Gen-Y gooseneck coupler has an offset design. The bottom of the coupler, where it attaches to the ball, is positioned 2-1/2" away from the coupler tube, which inserts into the outer tube on your trailer. This provides 2-1/2" of extra clearance, giving you more space between your truck cab and trailer when making tight turns.

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this Gen-Y Spartan four inch square shock absorbing gooseneck coupler with a 2 1/2 inch offset. Has a 4,500 pound tongue weight capacity. Now this coupler will give you a nice smooth ride when you're towing your heavy duty equipment trailer or even your toy hauler with the shock absorbing gooseneck coupler. The sturdy inner tube right here is what'll slide into your existing outer tube, creates a gooseneck coupler for hooking your trailer up to your truck. You also notice it includes the 3/4 inch diameter pinning clip for securing it to that outer tube.
Now the offset design we mentioned on this coupler will give you an extra 2 1/2 inches of extra clearance between your truck cab and your trailer to help when making tight turns. That extra clearance is measured from the center of these adjustment holes to the center of the ball hole, so that extra 2 1/2 inches will give you extra clearance. Now the coupler socket right down here, this will secure to the hitch ball with this self latching snap latch design that automatically engages when the hitch ball is in the socket. So when you put your gooseneck trailer over your ball, drop it down over the ball, it'll go over the ball, it'll snap the latch back and then forward, automatically locks it into place. You're all ready to go.
And then what's nice is they include this snap latch pull rod to allow you to easily uncouple from outside your truck bed. So with this, you just reach from outside the bed in there, hook that latch, pull it all the way back, and that'll uncouple it. And then you can remove from the gooseneck ball. Now this is a shock absorbing design. It is designed to absorb road shock at your connection point, creates a nice, safe, smooth, and stable ride.
The multiple pivot points right here of the coupler allow for movement between the base of the coupler and the top tube of the coupler. And the internal construction of the coupler will function like a torsion axle to limit transfer of road shock from truck to trailer and vice versa. And just to give you an idea, if you're not familiar with what a torsion axle sort of looks like, here's a cutaway of usually what's inside. Get this over here to show you. But right here you can see this is gonna be similar to right here in these pivot points, built into the coupler of these tubes with these inner bars that are surrounded by rubber cords.
So basically, as the coupler's base rises or falls, these inner bars right here are gonna twist inside of the tubes, attempting to follow the base's motion. But those rubber cords are gonna prevent those bars from twisting too far. So basically as each bar turns, these cords compress to absorb the shock. So that means that any shock that's experienced by your truck can be absorbed before it reaches your trailer and vice versa, the shock that's experienced by your trailer won't get transferred to your truck. Also, what's nice about this coupler, there are no airbags to maintain and has fewer moving parts to repair or replace than some of your other shock absorbing solutions that are out there. This is a heavy duty steel construction, has the Gen-Y popular silver vein powder coat finish on it to resist wear and corrosion. And this part is mainly USA, again with the ball size it fits is your standard gooseneck ball size of 2 5/16 inches, gross towing weight capacity 25,000 pounds, vertical load limit or maximum tongue weight of 4,500 pounds. And we mentioned that offset from here to the ball, center of the ball is 2 1/2 inches. And the tube again is four inches by four inches. But that's gonna do it for a look at the Gen-Y Spartan four inch square shock absorbing gooseneck coupler with the 2 1/2 inch offset.

There are situations where the existing outer tube of the gooseneck couple will not have the correct holes to line this adapter up with. It is okay to slide this inner tube into the outer tube aligned correctly and just tighten the set screws. You will not use the pin in this case.

I wouldnt pull the gooseneck without it. SRW pulls very stable without the shock and vibration.

A year later and I stand behind this product and gen y’s customer service. The sticker that shows the load range in the neck came off after a couple of weeks. It was a sticker so I didn’t expect it to last anyway. So after I loaded my trailer with its full load out it’s a cargo conversion toy hauler I had some concerns about being over loaded. I took some pictures of my hitch in a fully loaded state on a level parking lot, with an angledegree finder on the torsion bars. I emailed the pictures and concerns to gen y. They responded very quickly and assured me that my hitch was in the “sweet spot”. It pulls and rides like a dream. I will definitely buy another if I ever need one. I believe this one will last me mana years of travel!
