Today we're going to take a look at the Curt EZR Double Lock Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch with a 30,000 pound weight capacity. Now this heavy duty underbed hitch will let you tow your gooseneck trailer. It uses a double lock system which provides added security using two pins that'll hold the ball in place instead of your normal just one. It has a nice chrome plated hitch ball which will easily remove when you're not towing for complete access to your truck bed. Basically all you have to do is pull your handle out to unlock it and it'll pop right out. Flip it over. There's a little handle underneath here, drop it like back into place, release your handle and it'll lock it there and it'll be stored in upside down in your hitch for easy access.
It does have a nice chrome ring that'll surround the hitch ball hole, provides a nice tight low profile look. It does come with this included rubber cover and when it is being stored, you can put it in there to keep anything from falling in there. It does have a nice comfort grip handle here, can be positioned on either side of the truck bed. You can have it on the driver's side or flip it over the passenger side, whichever you prefer. And on the locking mechanism, they do use a zinc plating to help provide superior corrosion resistance. Now the, if you notice here we've included the 5/8 inch thick spring loaded safety chain hookups. They are all built in and to install this, it is an easy one person installation.
It does require a custom installation kit for your application. We do sell that separately on our website. What I would recommend is to go to the website, use the fit guide, put in your year model vehicle, and it'll show you what installation kit you would need to install this to your vehicle. The other nice feature on this, is you'll notice this orange center ball locator, helps eliminate any drilling errors. When you go to install this, what you want to do is just drop this into the hole and when you go put it up underneath the truck bed, there's a little hole in the middle. You drill a pilot hole through there and then you go up on top and then take your 4 inch hole saw that you're going to cut out your hole for your gooseneck ball and this'll still be in there.
When you drill down, as you're drilling the hole to let you know when you've gotten far enough, the orange shavings will start to appear and that'll let you know that you drilled far enough so that you can stop. Saves you a lot of time by using that. Now they do also offer some extra accessories you can use with this hitch. They have an adapter plate, which is part number C16220. That can be purchased separately and it allows for fifth wheel towing. It would just drop, the shank would drop into this and allow you to put in tow a fifth wheel.
And they also offer an offset hitch ball. It's part number C602. that's available to create additional space between your cab and trailer. Now these parts are made in the USA. Again, the gooseneck ball size is 2 5/16 diameter. Let me just pull this out, twist it to hold it in the open position, drop it into place, and again, just twist it to release it and unlock it. And as I mentioned, the diameter of the gooseneck ball's 2 5/16, gross towing weight capacity on this is 30,000 pounds. Tongue weight capacity is 7,500 pounds and as I mentioned, it does require a 4 inch hole to be drilled in your truck bed to be able to access this opening. It does come with a nice set of installation instructions that'll describe how everything is installed and how it operates. But that should do it for the review on the Curt EZR Double Lock Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch With the 30,000 pound weight capacity.

2021 Sierra 2500 standard box. Item arrived pretty quick with all parts included and no damage.
Instructions for the install are, in my opinion, not very detailed and left me having to figure several things out on my own. Biggest pain was having to drop the fuel tank a few inches to access the hole in the driver-side frame rail to fish wire the one bolt for the side plate. Unsure why this info was missing as I would imagine anyone installing this on the same truck would have the same issue of not having enough clearance for the fish wire procedure. The front and rear rails are 0.25” in length different and are not labeled - be prepared to measure and appropriately install in the correct position with the holes closer to the bottom (this is poorly referenced in the instructions and leaves additional room for error and time). The install took me about 7 hours (no help).
Finished product is nice and sturdy. The ball ends up being about 4-5” forward the rear axle. I tried to find this info prior to purchasing, but could not. I use an extang hard tri-fold tonneau cover that does not flip fully up toward the cab and was concerned I would have to remove each time I hooked up a gooseneck. It appears that I will have to remove for most applications due to clearance issues, so less than ideal. Operates as intended and should bring many years of trouble free service.
I have had a few different GN hitches over the years and this model is top notch. The installation was straight forward and the drill guide made the location of where to drill effortless. If I had to pick a place where improvement could occur, it would be the resistance of the safety chain loop springs. They ensure rattles don't occur, but getting the chain loop inside can be difficult at times. Overall the construction is very robust. The nice touches such as the rubber cap and the price point make this a great option. I would repeat the purchase.
Overall a decent product. Easy to install, hardest part was manhandling all the pieces by myself. Tows wonderfully.
The only negative is the length of the ball when in stored position. I have 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 2wd that sits low to the ground. When stored, the ball strikes the top of the axle housing and cut the ABS wiring. Easy repair and we no longer store the ball in the hitch
lack of paperwork i.e. parts list install instructions
I've had it over a year now installed it myself without any help, I think it was very easy to install.
I tow everything with it never had any issues.
Overall easy ish install front cross member that is angle iron I had to beat in even with the box bolts loosened otherwise great product and hole drilling is super easy with supplied jig
etrailer was awesome to purchase from! Best price, free and quick shipping. Love the Curt EZr double lock underbed gooseneck hitch. So easy to flip the ball with the double lock system.
Easy to install. 64 years old and did it all by myself. So glad I went with this style. Have gooseneck and fifth wheel ability. When I want my full bed there’s no rails in the way. Pulling 13,000-14,000 lb fifth wheel camper. No problems.
The hitch works fine and was easy to install. Everything fit well with one exception. The rod that locks the ball in place from the wheel well is too short. I expect it is the wrong rod for the 2013 Ram pickup. I made an attempt to contact etrailer to get another, but failed to contact anyone. Can you put me in contact with someone who can assist me in getting a replacement?
This thing is HEAVY! Need 2 people but don’t really have room . This one is just as difficult to install as the other 2 I’ve installed! Wish I had the factory hitch.
Installed on a 2002 Ford f250 short bed. this was very easy to install just as specified I chose to remove my 5inch exhaust to make for more room and easier install but it went in smooth and the exhaust went back in with around 1 inch of room to spare so not much modification.
The only problem that I have ran into is for some odd reason when I hook up our gooseneck trailer the tongue weight brings the suspension down enough that the side plates actually hit the u-bolt studs that hold the leaf springs to the axle. So idk what’s going on with that but not real happy about it I’m going to have to cut my u-bolts down some in order for it to be able to ride smoothly otherwise the bracket hits the u-bolts every time you hit a bump and it doesn’t sound pleasant at all. Not sure if it’s just this hitch or other ones that do it but the side plates have an edge that sticks out and it’s slamming off of the U-bolts.
Overall pretty easy to assemble. The instructions are garbage. Hardest part is tightening up the bolts, basically 1 click at a time with a ratchet on a few bolts. The quality of the hitch seems good.
Only the hith showed up. No installation kit.
purchase arrived on time in two packages. No missing pieces or hardware. instructions were good. installed it myself. It was easier to install by removing the truck bed as i did not have a lift. used hitch to tow after installing and no issues.
Went in well, works good, happy
Everything was flawless from purchase to install.
Great hitch and easy to use. I did have to lift up the bed a little bit to install it. Took me about 5 hours because of that but otherwise it is a great hitch. The rings for the safety chains stay on the bed and the ball flips over and stows away completely.
I installed this hitch on my 2021 Silverado 2500HD. When first looking under the truck it appeared the exhaust would have to be modified to make the unit fit. The fact is this unit went in without any modifications at all…even all the factory drilled holes lined up perfectly. I recommend this hitch to anyone that has a stock exhaust system.
Seems heavy duty but the brackets hit the u-bolts and spring top plates. Curt told me I must of installed them wrong. I don't think so
Nice clean look. Most importantly didn't have to lower exhaust. centering the hitch in the bed was easy because of the template provided. Although install did take longer than what was noted, it was fairly simple. Would definitely purchase again.
Excellent fit, install was about 3 hrs. Easy to follow instructions and customer service was a pleasure to deal with. Happy with my choice and would recommend this product.
I will say on a 6.5 bed with dual exhaust on my diesel is was snug fitting under the truck to bolt it together, but that’s a me problem not a curt problem. Fit and functionality was perfect no complaints at all.
Accurate install directions, fantastic fit and operates perfectly for my 5th wheel RV
Your installation instructions are lacking details weakest part of the product. Shipping could use work too box was destroyed and bolts were missing from the open package
Once hitch was in, and bolts replaced it towed fine
