Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the trunk floor coverings, storage trays, rear scuff panel, and the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your trunk.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.
Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

I have used this on my 2015 Subaru Impreza with great results,... I personally misread the product description and I mistakenly ordered the same one for my 2013 WRX.. notes to future customers this does not fit a WRX but works very well on the base model and Impreza
I use the product and my right turn. Signal is staying on now and I would rather get a refund.
First I would like to commend etrailer on their customer service. I received this wiring harness for my 2016 Subaru Impreza 5-Door Sport Limited. Installation wasn't too bad except that the plugs are WAY too big to fit through the existing grommets for the taillight assemblies. They say "make a small cut," but really you need to just cut a wide circle. If you cut too long of a slit, you risk cutting through the end. So just cut a wide circle. Look at my pictures for size of the grey plugs compared to the grommet.
I wired everything up, and headed out 750 miles to buy a trailer over a weekend. When I connected to the trailer the brake lights and turn signals worked, but the tail lights did not. I drove the 750 miles home anyway, just not at night. I did some trouble shooting with a voltmeter and saw that the brown wire in the connection didn't have any power. I emailed etrailer and they sent me a new one.
A few days later the new one arrived and, after having to uninstall the old and reinstall the new harness, it also didn't work. Instead of using the voltmeter I went and bought an inexpensive 12 volt light bulb tester. I was able to verify that my hot wire from the battery and the ground were working. The brown wire, which feeds the tail lights, was not. I checked the brown wire before the black box in the harness and it also wasn't getting power there. So I followed the brown wire back to the driver's side plugs on the harness.
The vehicle plug has six spots, but only 5 have wires coming in. You can see it in the pictures. The Curt harness has six wires. The brown wire was connected to the spot where there was no vehicle wire. That's why it wasn't getting any power. I called Curt Customer service and they had no explanation. They verified my VIN and that this harness should work for my vehicle; they have had no other calls regarding this harness, but they also don't know how many other people have tried my specific year. They think there is a possibility this will only effect some individual cars or perhaps my entire model year. But apparently my car has a different rear light assembly than they think it is supposed to have.
I was able to cut and splice the appropriate wires with solder and heat shrink. I now have a working harness, but I should not have had to go through these lengths for a harness that was supposedly built for my vehicle. If you want a harness for your Impreza I would recommend you give one of the other brands a try and not this Curt model.
I installed the wiring harness in a 2013 Subaru Impreza 5-door. The biggest challenge was running the power supply wire to the battery. Here's what I did.
I removed the rear seats (check online videos for details) and the threshold trim from the driver's side (both driver and passenger trim). I then ran the wire through the door jam up to the fuse box (lower left of steering wheel). I then used a fuse tap to extend an extra circuit from the unused 20 amp trailer circuit. The fuse tap allows you to install a separate fuse for the extension - I picked 10 amps (of course). The circuit is NOT switched - it's on even when the key is out. So I disconnected the tap while connecting the power wire to the wiring harness. Works like a charm and looks good (invisible).
It took a lot longer to figure out how I was going to hook the power wire up (lots of googling) than to actually do it. For other automobiles, I recommend checking for audio amp installation guides - they have similar issues.
A little tricky of an install but works great!
Wiring kit came just as advertised , plug and play. Installation was easy, only time consuming part was running the power wire to the battery underneath all the plastic car panels. Everything seemed to work until I noticed my passenger side back up light was constantly on whenever I turned my lights on. And as I expected after, would turn off when I put the car in reverse. After taking the taillight out and a quick inspection I saw that the adapter plugs had 2 wires, the running light signal and the reverse light signal, connected to the wrong pin locations. Slightly disappointed, but a quick cut and resplice of the 2 wires made a quick correction. Hope they fix this in the future. Overall still good product worth the buy.
They thought about just about everything! The hardest part is wiring it to the battery.
Good Product. I am a guy that likes a challenge although this wasen't much of one.. easy instructions, straight forward application and tools this was a fun project. my best advice would be if you're putting together a project of sorts make sure you speak to a rep before you order, that way all the parts you order work well together..
Worked great on my Subaru Impreza
I haven't installed it yet, but it seems to be the proper equiment for my 2015 subaru impreza hatchback.
Has done exactly what it was supposed to do. Recommended
